A Clockwork Reader - Hannah
Does anyone else get such strong "I'm not like other girls" vibes with her? I swear she purposely hates everything that gets popular in a way that is so condescending... as if she is better and smarter because "some girls get it." It's so irritating.

Re: A Clockwork Reader - Hannah
personally I disagree, I really like Hannah I think she's actually quite the opposite of an "I'm not like other girls" girl

Also disagree. She has legit criticisms for what's popular and is eloquent in sharing her thoughts. She actually goes in depth with her critiques and I like her passion when explaining herself. I absolutely loved her review of A Little Life, even when I liked the book.

If it's regarding her latest worst books of 22 I agree with her almost 100%, all current tiktok romance books are terrible, including CH books and they are 100% NOT a romance. All her points are correct.

I do feel like she only makes videos for clicks these days by following trends: TikTok books, dark academia, Colleen Hoover. I mean the videos are doing great so good for her but, like other booktubers who only follow trends, she doesn't really have her own identity anymore.

I don’t get that vibe from her and I generally tend to agree with a lot of her thoughts, I do kind of feel like her heart isn’t really in filming videos anymore.

Re: A Clockwork Reader - Hannah
Okay, I need some peoples two cents because I'm curious if I am the only one that feels this way about Hannah.
If Hannah doesn't like something... or Hannah deems something as not "right" or "good"... then it automatically makes said thing "problematic"... when in reality literature is SUPPOSED to be something to discuss and learn from. Literature SHOULD sometimes be "problematic".... at least in the ways that Hannah defines problematic.
I think this is why I get so irked by her. Her hate for Colleen Hoover is the perfect example of this. Don't get me wrong, she has EVERY right not to like CH... I have authors I dont like as well, and I also am not a huge fan of CH either. But one thing I don't get is Hannah's obsession with CH being problematic because she writes toxic relationships and doesnt flat out say "these relationships are toxic". BECAUSE CH writes books that have relationships that yes are toxic, automatically means that CH should ever write again, and should be cancelled? WHY? Isn't that the point of reading? To learn, to talk, to discuss, to understand, to grow mentally and intellectually, to develop opinions and ideas of your own? to read something and critically think about it? CH's books are ADULT novels, which means they are written for a group of people that are mature enough to THINK. We arent teenagers. I think CH's books are great books to have discussions about because they are morally grey....
I actually saw a tik tok about someone saying that colleen hoover's portrayal of an abusive relationship was SPOT on because you are so brain washed and manipulated... she said she related a lot to that character (she said a bunch of other stuff but I cant remember off the top of my head) I never really thought about it that way before, but after hearing her take I was able to contemplate and think about some things... even if it didn't even relate to the book, her take on it made me think.... but the BOOK ITSELF is what created that conversation in the first place. Writing things that arent PERFECTLY MORAL, or perfectly right is the perfect catalyst for conversation and discussion... that is important. The fact that people talk about CH's books by saying... these shouldn't be marketed as romance is in itself a great conversation to be had... but Hannah just wants to yell that CH is horrible and PrObLeMaTiC and disgusting...
Authors dont have to flat out tell you that something is immoral either. Authors that are aware that their readers have brains of their own is the type of authors I like. They dont feel the need to feed us virtue because people like Hannah will burn them at the stake for it. They give us something to chew on and say.... "Here is a story, what are YOUR THOUGHTS on this.... how do YOU feel about this...." IMO, Thats how Authors should write. The fact that people like Hannah make authors fear writing something questionable to start a conversation is sad to me.
Same with "A Little Life"... she didnt like it, she felt too much emotion from it... therefore, it was problematic. Just because you weren't stable enough to read it doesnt mean it automatically makes it problematic and shouldn't have been written.... thats the beauty of those books, they are FICTIONAL characters. I have learned SO MUCH through the struggles of fictional characters! There are a lot of people that have deep discussions about that book, and a lot of people that gained certain empathy and understanding through that book.... but because Hannah was pained by it, it means that no one else should read it and it shouldn't have been written.
She is the type of person that would want book bans based solely on HER own unstable feelings.

Has Hannah ever said that books she doesn't like shouldn't have been written? Cause I don't recall her ever having that take.

Re: A Clockwork Reader - Hannah
Eh I don’t really agree. I think Hannah’s right. The problem of Colleen Hoover book is it IS a lot of young people reading them and not talking about the men & the relationships like they are abusive & harmful (with maybe the exception of it ends with us), I think that is problematic. And I think Hannah has said that it’s not like she wants to shame anybody & everybody that has read Colleen Hoover she just worries about what could come from people romanticizing the relationships in those books and I think that’s very fair. I can’t speak about a little life specifically because I haven’t read it but in general I think ‘trauma porn’ is a fair critique & important conversation to have surrounding some books

I have no problems with Hannah but her “surprise” being a new journal was not a surprise. I was more shocked it took so long. Also find it a bit annoying when YouTubers announce a “surprise” and it’s turns up to be something to buy so the YouTuber can make money :p

Feels like a money grab to me. The book journal makes sense to me.... but it feels like she was like.. "how can easily a work off of this to make more money.... OH I KNOW, MOVIE AND TV JOURNAL!!"Abcread wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 12:35 amI have no problems with Hannah but her “surprise” being a new journal was not a surprise. I'd get the reading journal, but I really don't want to own anything that says "Clockwork" on it. It, obviously, reminds me too much of CCs first series and I hated those books. Though, I understand that "A clockwork reader" is Hannah's brand.

Mods, can this and the duplicate thread get merged? I’m pretty sure it was a posting glitch.

Re: A Clockwork Reader - Hannah
for someone who hates colleen hoover so much, hannah talks about her more than some of her fans. i also don't like her books and agree with almost all of the criticism she has for the author, but she's beating a dead horse at this point. like we get it?? you don't like her and that's fine, but then why are you constantly bringing her up? whoever said she made hating colleen hoover a personality trait is kind of spot on. in her latest video talking about bad books, half of them are colleen hoover. having a negative review is fine and i enjoy listening to her critiques, but is it necessary for her to post 3 or 4 videos within several months where she is just bashing the same books over and over again. like we got the point the first time, it just feels a little excessive when she has already made her thoughts on the author (and the books in question) very clear.
