i am so BAFFLED by this take "i don't want to read about teenagers, i'm going to read the genre for teenagers though"?
most popular fantasy is YA? Lord of the Rings? The Witcher? Wheel of Time? Discworld? Broken Earth? that's just some of what is immediately in front of me on my bookshelf.
"very hard to find" girl walk into a book store, go past the YA section into "Fantasy and Sci Fi", stop, pick up a book and see if it's your vibe.

Re: Book Twitter
Girl, just say you want to read YA but with sex and move on. That's what most of these types of people really want. If not that, then to be spoon fed books without actually putting in any effort.

Re: Book Twitter
The funny part is they never wanna read those adult fantasies that are just YA with sex when they're published unless they're super hypedsofisticat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 3:46 pmGirl, just say you want to read YA but with sex and move on. Re: Book Twitter
I don't think it's just them wanting publishers to hold their hand and tell them what to read, it's that they don't want to read books that are more complex and that have protagonists who are mid-20s and up, because they do not want to read about experiences they can't relate to or characters they can't see themselves in. They want books that are YA-level but with early-20s protagonists and sex.
If you don't want to read about teenagers but refuse to read adult books, you probably actually don't like books that much and would be better served reading fanfic. Which is fine! Just do that rather than making the fact that you fundamentally don't like books other people's problem.

Don't know why this person's upset when white as the default has been talked about for years. Although descriptions or names won't be fool-proof deterrents because some people just skip right over those details anyway.

I think there was some buzz about this on twitter last week. The bigger question is who let her in that group, unless there’s no barrier to entry.just a cat wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 8:57 pmNow what the hell is wrong with this woman? First the balls and now this?

Re: Book Twitter
No their not. Seem like someone unhappy. Why would I promote a genre that I don't enjoy that fakeTheBookishBabe wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 4:38 pmAre authors okay out there?

Re: Book Twitter
The fact that they're apparently HS students is absolutely disgusting. Adults need to stop sexualizing teenagers and start moving to adult books if they want to write sex so badly.honeybearbee wrote: ↑Wed Aug 17, 2022 11:39 pmhas anyone seen the hood river rat thing going around?

Re: Book Twitter
No, younger characters doesn't mean it's for a younger audience, or at least, it didn't use to. I don't know why that changed because you've got books like ACOTAR shelved as YA even though it's got mature content. I'm glad the author isn't labelling it as YA but still perturbed that she's writing steamy scenes with high schoolers.honeybearbee wrote: ↑Thu Aug 18, 2022 5:15 pm*barf* also, it's called new adult, but it's about high school kids? so, isn't that YA?
