I also think Martha did’t get put down and most likely got adopted by someone else. With the amount Tanya travels and the fact that Jim took a little while to find a place to live they possibly thought it would be unfair on the dog. Maybe, I know, crazy idea, neither of them loved her as much as they portray and basically she got put up for adoption? (by a loving family who would cherish and spoil the little sad dog that she was)
