I must have missed the humor then my badpensandthreads wrote: ↑Fri Feb 26, 2021 2:16 pmI think you're missing the joke about 420 being the set number goal. It's basically like saying they plan to read 69 books.AhTheGossip wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:56 pmThis is honestly so ridiculous to me... that's more than the days in a year, is read all day everyday all they ever do? I mean, put the goal to whatever you want... but why do this if you're 49 books behind the schedule then (also, I lost it at their own response about people shading them, when there's literally no one in the responses providing anything but awe and praise, these people really can't live without victim mentality, can they)
Sure the latter is a technically reasonable goal... but there's a reason someone uses that number and it has nothing to do with serious goals.
I actually think it's pretty funny since it sort of is mocking the people who do ridiculous numbers goals too.

Re: Book Twitter
I wasn't a fan of it. The premise was good but the exucution was poor imo. It's a fan fave for some but it felt really childish to me like MG level instead of YA. The author kind of annoys me too because she constantly whines about it not being a bestseller. Like I know she has BP so I know she has her ups and downs but like it's been out for over a year and even before the world shut down I didn't see too much early love for it.DraculaFan666 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:15 pmIs the book even good enough to get a tattoo based on it?

For that person, yes. What we think about the quality of the book doesn't really matter because it's not our body.DraculaFan666 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:15 pmIs the book even good enough to get a tattoo based on it?

Re: Book Twitter
Book Twitter has been a mess today. First, the author of upcoming YA "Meet Cute Diary" reveals that he has been dropped by his agent Beth Phelan (creator of #DVPit) and another unmentioned agent because they couldn't offer the accommodations that the author needed because of his ADHD.
Second, turns out that a white nonlatinx author previously known as Taylor Barton or Brooklyn Ray had come back anonymously claiming to be latinx and gaining the trust of AOC that they had harmed in the past. Yikes

It looks like the author of Meet Cute Diary is also the same person who tweeted the original allegations about Taylor Barton/Brooklyn Ray last year.Eyechikn08 wrote:Book Twitter has been a mess today. He's now privated his twitter account - do you know what the original situation was with Taylor Barton?

Re: Book Twitter
I missed the Emery Lee drama because I muted the account due to him always being in drama. Plus I was tired of the weekly why won't people preorder my book tweets constantly coming across my timeline. I was so confused about where the ableism discourse stemmed from.

Re: Book Twitter
yeah it seems like Emery just didn't want to do any work lol which... no surprise given how shitty they act 9/10. Spend all day on twitter trying to cancel random people and refusing to "find time" to edit because... ADD/ADHD? lol....

Re: Book Twitter
He is always on Twitter jumping into some convo but with the replies turned off of course often disputing valid things other POC say whether it's readers, agents, or other authors so we're not playing that card in this convo. It's a strong accusation to make saying you were dropped because they didn't want to make accommodations for your ADHD without talking about what those accommodations entailed.DeathArcana wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 1:46 pmyeah it seems like Emery just didn't want to do any work lol which... no surprise given how shitty they act 9/10. The author started just talking out of their ass, dang. On another note, I wasn't aware that they were always jumping into discourse

Something about the way Emery went about all this isn’t sitting right with me. I can’t put my finger on it though.

Re: Book Twitter
I dunno how to feel about this discussion. I don't know who this person is but I have ADHD (comorbid with the Autism I mentioned elsewhere) and I really chafe at people saying things like "so and so is lazy/doesn't want to work and is blaming it on ADHD". I've been called lazy and such for most of my life, especially when it comes to school. Teachers saying I "just don't want to do the work" while I worked as hard as could. I'm actually unemployed now and seeking help from the state because both conditions make it hard to navigate the job hunting field. I've actually never gotten a job without help. I used to love writing but ADHD and depression killed that. I have a relative with ADHD who got on meds that work and is finally going back to school and playing music again. Incredibly smart and talented person, unable to put it to use because of ADHD. For some of us it's much more debilitating than people can understand. People get angry when they hear about the way friends, family, and my former workplace was accommodating or understanding towards me because they don't think anyone deserves, for example, understanding about being late or not making deadlines. They just say "well, you're supposed to work harder than everyone else to overcome it" not understanding how tired we already are and how hard we're already working. People with more manageable ADHD talk that way too and it's so exhausting. Sorry for the rant, I was feeling a bit beat down by the world already lol

Re: Book Twitter
To be clear I don't want to defend Emery when I don't even know him, I just hate people saying people with ADHD don't want to work or are lazy. I mean we can be of course, but I think a lot of neurodiverse or mentally ill people get labeled that way without any willingness to understand underlying issues. If Emery has burnt bridges and not handled things well with his agent that is of course on him.LunarRadiation wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 8:42 pmI dunno how to feel about this discussion.
