I hate it. I feel like it's yet another way gooroos try to silence/minimise the critical opinions of their audience. It's thin-skinned and usually hypocritical.
Lots of idiots do it (Livloveshermakeup and Anglica Nyqvist come to mind.) I'm posting because I just noticed Amy Loves Makeup has done it too. Disappointing. *unsubs*

The trend of turning off likes/dislikes
In my future dystopia your history of stanning one of these creatures will be put on your permanent record, so potential employers can judge accordingly on basis of intelligence.

Samantha March also has hers turned off and Tara Lynn has both her likes/dislikes AND sub count off.

To me it's a sign of being extremely thin-skinned. It then makes me believe they are very involved in preening their comments sections, too.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I also think this trend is specific to the "smaller" type of "niche" youtuber who is fame-thirsty, who wants to appear more loved than they actually are. .

Re: The trend of turning off likes/dislikes
Very true. The bigger influencers just switch off their comments but very rarely disable likes and dislikes (maybe they value the engagement boost whilst comments are disabled - they are smart enough to know where their bread is ultimately buttered). Whereas the smaller peoole tend to leave comments open whilst disabling likes and dislikes. I think like yousay they want to appear transparent and open to criticism, knowing how much flac bigger people get for shutting down comments sections -- but yes, we have no idea how strenuously they are policing their comments. I have a feeling most of them use the Georgia Harris smug block technique where they block your comments but you can still see them and this is how their comments sections are always overwhelmingly positive. Any critical comments will be smug blocked straight away.hcburbs wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:10 pmTo me it's a sign of being extremely thin-skinned. Re: The trend of turning off likes/dislikes
I wanted to comment this somewhere, and I couldn't find a thread for Amy, but I think she might have been influenced by Angelica turning off her likes/dislikes count. She seems to look up to her a lot, and apparently they've recently become friends. I don't know how I feel about this because I genuinely like Amy, and I just don't get what she sees in Angie that's so inspiring to her, they honestly seem to have completely different personalities

Re: The trend of turning off likes/dislikes
^^^ I still like Amy too, she seems like a sweetie and she is great at makeup, does beautiful looks without being clowny (at least Angie hasn't influenced her in this regard )
BUT I think she's pretty naive and can't think for herself. And this, as you say, maybe why she is sheeping to Angie on the likes/dislikes thing. Either that or she's just really sensitive. And much as I think she's sweet I can't get down with this stuff because I'm an old cynical hag whose skin is as thick as buffalo hide lol
