What's this I see on my YT feed> Black Lives Matter by Sunbeams Jess. A woman who embodies the epitomy of white priviledge. I am really not sure your brand of literal from the amount you drink - champagne socialism is needed right now. I started to watch but this smells of performative action . The very lets appear earnest by wearing a black t shirt and leaving off the normal heavy caked on makeup but still the large amounts of expensive jewellery i see,,,

White privilege is not atoned for by a 10 min video and reading a couple of books. If Jess really cares about this issue then she needs to take a good look at her lifestyle and redressing the balance. PS if you think her concern when she goes to the polls is who is looking out for black people or ever has been, you have really been sucked into her attempts to appear relatable to her audience.

But she has a point you can't deny that. Going to the polls is one way that is going to help. For example, Boris Johnson does not care about ethnic minorities. He calls Muslim Women 'letterboxes', and used a derogatory remark about Africans when he wrote an article about their 'watermelon smiles'.
If we vote him in again he's not going to do anything to help them. Heck, even a few weeks after he made a huge U-turn about scrapping food vouchers for poor children. It wasn't until Marcus Rashford got involved is when he 'changed his mind'. If we vote him in again he will do nothing to help the poorest in society or help to uplift poc. Trump is a more extreme example. What has he done to help race relations in the US? All he cares about is himself. People need to vote in the US to get him out or they'll be more turmoil.

Back to completely shallow criticisms of beauty gurus, I feel like her hair doesn't suit her overall "look" at all. It's not some edgy juxtaposition of feminine and grungy, it's like she got her face and ears heavily pierced, body pretty heavily tattooed, puts on dozens of rings and necklaces every day, applies a full face of makeup, and then just puts no effort whatsoever into her mousy limp brown hair. Of course nobody has an obligation to do anything appearance-wise, but her recent fashion lookbook made her look so...unfinished? It makes sense in vlogs and even book videos that she wouldn't always have elaborately styled hair, but even on videos all about fashion it seems like there's still no effort. I can relate as someone with similar hair who didn't learn how to style it from my mom when I was younger, but it's always weird to me when beauty gurus are just like "lol I suck at hair oh well. Gonna not bother learning anything about this section of an industry that provides my livelihood."

I actually love Jess' hair and always thought it was something which made her stand out as weird as that seems. Instead I wish she would scrap all that heavy metal jewellery, garish makeup. Still keep an edge, but more refined.

I think that would work too! I don't think her hair looks bad, I just think it looks weird next to the extensive piercings she has.

Missing the days where she would upload lookbooks frequently. Would be interested if she did a "favourite pieces" series of videos - like what items she likes best in her wardrobe. Finding her book videos very unengaging.

Jeez, her vlogs, as a depiction of her life, are soooo boring. How lazy and entitled can her and Zac be? I don't understand, she's using Covid as an excuse to not "be as busy as usual" ie. do anything at all during her days.... To each their own in regards to how you spend your days, but this is her job...... there's so much she could do without leaving her house, so many opportunities for videos about her overflowing wardrobe, her new house etc etc...

At this point there are also lots of things she could do leaving her house (just not traveling internationally), like that picnic in a park they had recently. Something like that would be a great place to shoot some outfit footage. It's fine if that's not what she's really into anymore, but if she's not into anything but sponsored vlogs (this last one was definitely just posted so she could plug that language app) maybe she should reconsider this as a career. There doesn't seem to be ANY content she wants to produce, she just likes the idea of being a prolific artsy influencer and will sometimes talk about being motivated to get so much done, but doesn't even put out enough content for it to qualify as her full-time job, much less hers PLUS Zak's.

Not sure if anyone on here also reads tattle, but there's rumours over there about Jess potentially being pregnant. She apparently bought a pregnancy book (for expectant mothers) and it showed up in some public reading list she had. She deleted it shortly after. She also blurred her stomach in a clip in a recent video she uploaded.

I know I sound like such a hater saying this and I know it's her choice of what to do, but personally I am gonna be SO disappointed if this is true. She already doesn't do anything and her vlogs are so boring. Now she's probably gonna make her whole brand around being a stay at home mom. I was hoping she would get her shit together at some point and start doing more interesting things and vlog them like she did in university. Now if she is gonna be a stay at home mom and influencer, she's definitely not gonna do anything else. Also, her degree is basically gonna go unused which kinda annoys me because there are so many people in the world who would kill to get an education and can't afford it. She's already wasting it by just staying home and reading. If she's gonna be a mom as well she's definitely not gonna do anything with her degree.

Also, she's probably gonna do even more sponsorships now because she needs to support 3 people instead of 2 since neither of them does anything else.

^Wym? She shared plenty about her relationship with Zak, even his job history. I just get the impression he just doesn't like being on camera much. When she was in uni, she often showed her roommates and talked about them. She also shared about her mom's illness. This is just off the top of my head. If she's gonna be a stay at home mom, what is she gonna vlog since she's gonna be constantly with the baby? Either mommy vlogs or she will post her usual content but even less often because she will be busier.

The pandemic also stopped most housebuilding/renovation work that had already started so it probably wouldn't have been possible or feasible to get in builders for quotes etc. nvm to actually begin the work.

I get that, but she'd had it for at least 6 months before the pandemic too, and talked about working on it all the time but they never really did anything. She was talking about getting an office set up ASAP last vlogtober but they didn't really do anything about that as far as I saw in the videos. It kind of felt like this house is something that just seems like a leisurely side project to her, not a necessity.

Hi! I literally just joined this site after she said ‘I’ve been working from bed all day’ and I was shocked what work? Do you guys think she a secret job or something because I doubt it. Anyways I’ve been a huge fan of hers during her uni years but haven’t watched anything she posted since her uni vlogging days so it has been years but because of the quarantine I had free time to go back to YouTube and I’ve been watching her videos for a few months now and the one thing I noticed is how sad she generally looks. She looks kinda detached to everything compared to her old self. I know the thing with her mum atm but even in videos from last year and her masters she looks completely uninterested in everything. I wonder if she’s going through something mentally or it’s just disinterested in making videos? (Hope it’s the latter.) also with the pregnancy thing i don’t think so but if it’s true her recent obsession with leaving notes and book for her children and grandchildren would make sense.

Has anyone noticed how consistent Jess has been on Youtube recently? Before she would post once a month (if that). Now she posts every week at least, and sometimes twice a week. I've noticed that since she disclosed her Mum's cancer diagnosis that she's been consistent. Also covid has forced her to do work, as she can't travel or go out as much.

Maybe she's realised that she can't rely on her Mum forever, as her Mum probably isn't working at the moment. This has made Jess realise that at the age of 26 that it's time to grow up (it took her a while) and finally support herself.

I don't think that it's just that she's realized her mom won't always be there to take care of her (although that could be part of it), but it's possible that creating content more regularly gives her more structure and helps her deal with the stress. Another booktuber I follow recently had her father pass away (expectedly, and she had moved in with him to help toward the end) and she was still creating content and explained her choice saying that it helped her have something else to focus on that wasn't just the morbid reality of her dad's impending death. Her intro to vlogtober was super vaguely talking about "things could change in a heartbeat" so I wonder if her mom's treatment is maybe not going as well as expected. If so I feel bad for them. That's such a tough thing to be going through on top of everything else happening in the world.

hey everyone, I'm the exact same as all of you - used to love jess. Our uni years coincided for the most part and I found her very relaxing. Tbh, I can pinpoint the moment I stopped liking her vlogs (it was when she got the septum piercing (ahhhh it's SO bad ))

A few things - I find it funny that people think she could get into publishing given how lazy she has proven to be. I work in publishing and it is a lot of work. I mean, it's like every job: you have deadlines, you have to answer for your actions etc etc. It's particularly funny because I do social marketing for the company & I have to source/write content for multiple accounts EVERY day, multiple times a day, as a non-subject expert, as well as managing themed projects, awareness days etc. So her current one post/week would not cut it.

I love reading, but I haven't been doing it that much since I started my new job and watch a lot of shit tv in the evenings to switch off. I watched a couple of Jess' vlogs recently and they made me feel so bad that I was 'wasting' my free time outside of work by watching tv, scrolling reddit, youtube, etc. Luckily I saw a comment on one of her more recent vids of something along the lines of "this kind of reading isn't generally feasible for people with 9-5 jobs'. I thought that was funny and completely true.

Lastly, and most importantly, every one of you must watch brittany bathgate!!! She is what Jess could've been. She's just turned 30, lives in a small English town with her boyfriend (somewhat correlates with J & Z because he is a scaffolder/builder, whilst Zach (could've been) a chef), she is quiet, thoughtful, and posts lovely, down to earth, escapism vlogs. She hasn't been vlogging for very long so there aren't too many but she's been posting weekly for a little while now. Let me know what you guys think of her! She has a rave thread either here or on t a t t l e and honestly, I can see why.

I've unsubscribed from Jess along with quite a few other bloggers since I'm just getting bored with the whole "youtube creator content" thing,... to much real shit going on in the world....

But I've just watched Jess´s vlogtober week three.... I just can't help but fell kind of sad for her.. this woman in her late twenties, with all the privilege and opportunities in the world, spends whole days "planning" her week... what is there to plan??? Its so crazy to me, most people her age are working their butts of 9-5 at the beginning stages of their careers, have purpose and the general drive to accomplish and make something out of themselves... to each their own of course, some do some don't, but she literally sits in her mums house and lets the years pass her by..... unfathomable that her family and friends don't push her to do something with her life... She seems like she is (albeit privileged) so lost, like she genuinely does not seem to ne equipped with any skills or qualities to handle life...

To me she is literally the real life Rory of the horrible a year in the life..
