Her current performance levels are good enough to qualify for JO nationals where every college in the country will be in attendance, a strong AA performance there might be enough to get earn her an NCAA spot and even if that were not to happen Peanut was held back a school year if I'm not mistaken so even though she turns 18 this year there's still another meet season left for her to get recruited.RazzleDazzle46 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2019 1:49 amI know we mostly talk about if Syd regrets when she moved(I honestly think she moved at the perfect time for someone with elite potential, because I think she would have peaked too soon otherwise). That being said I wonder if Peanut regrets it. Was just looking at her scores, and she's getting mostly 37's now. Had she switched earlier I think she could have been a solid level 10 gymnast who could have been committed somewhere by now. I still think she has a chance of getting a scholarship to a decent school if she keeps going this way but I think she waited too long.

Re: Gymscool Part 2
I know she can be recruited to a decent school, but I wonder if she waited too long in the sense that she's been a level 10 gymnast since 2015 and she had the potential to clearly be a top recruit(I mean she still could be, but she had 3 wasted years). Even though she is doing well I would have regretted wasting those three years. She wasn't like Syd, who yeah she could have been at a better gym, but she was talented enough that it didn't hurt her too much and she moved IMO at the perfect time. Peanut needed a better gym years ago. She doesn't have as much natural talent as Syd. She needed the better coach way earlier.

Re: Gymscool Part 2
I'm not denying that the coaching at First Class was inadequate especially for higher levels but another possible reason why her results may have taken a dive was puberty. She initially looked quite promising as a level 10, making it to JO nationals in her second season but during the subsequent months underwent a major physical transformation that had to have made an impact on her gymnastics.RazzleDazzle46 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2019 6:35 pmI know she can be recruited to a decent school, but I wonder if she waited too long in the sense that she's been a level 10 gymnast since 2015 and she had the potential to clearly be a top recruit(I mean she still could be, but she had 3 wasted years). Re: Gymscool Part 2
I am guessing her best shot, at this point, is as a 'walk on' to a team with hopes of gaining a scholarship in later years. Honestly, there is no shame in this, plenty of girls go the walk on route. Even if she doesn't get a full ride scholarship, she can still compete and be part of a team.
I'm wishing very positive things for her going into JO Nationals this year. I agree, her timing was bad with regards to the combo of puberty, peaking at the wrong time and having coaches that didn't know how to deal with it. Agree, Syd lucked out w/ her timing. I still really wonder why there was such fierce (& blind IMOP) loyalty to Coach Mary w/ so many of the girls.

Re: Gymscool Part 2
I honestly don't think it was puberty. Her scores from the beginning of level 10 till regionals 2016 were all over the place between 32-36. Then at Regionals and JO nationals she got 37's. Then she went right back to 33-36. I think she just had 2 good meets. Minus those 2 good meets her scores were stagnant for almost 4 years of being a level 10 at 1st class. Then within 2 months she became a new gymnast.
And honestly if she keeps improving the way she is, if she can keep this momentum and get low-mid 27's to low 28's she can got into a decent school on scholarship. At this point she is actually scoring well enough to be on a lower ranking D1 team. If you look at the weakest D1 schools(which would all have the same amount of scholarships as a UCLA), girls were getting lower than average scores than she is currently. But the one thing that may make it harder for her is there are more gymnasts at her level than the ones scoring 28-29. So there are more gymnasts out for those spots.

Katie O. took 3rd at Regionals so good luck to her for Nationals again this year.

I know we only see a portion of her day at the gym, but after watching Whitney Bjerken's gymnastics practice footage, it's really baffling how 1st Class spent a portion of the day playing childish games that had nothing to do with gymnastics at all really. You never see that in Whitney's gymnastics practice videos.

Re: Gymscool Part 2
I actually don't think having "Childish" games are a bad thing when done properly. It's actually something Chow has brought to the Chinese national team, which they all seem to love(He's always been a big believer in kids being kids, because of the gymnastics system he was raised in). But the big difference is Chow is an amazing coach. If you took the games out of 1st Class, you still have garbage coaching and poor results. Like even after Mary Left and there was clearly less games the girls who were there didn't get better until they actually left.ItsAndrew wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:45 amI know we only see a portion of her day at the gym, but after watching Whitney Bjerken's gymnastics practice footage, it's really baffling how 1st Class spent a portion of the day playing childish games that had nothing to do with gymnastics at all really. Re: Gymscool Part 2
Sydney Morris and Love Birt both attended the junior worlds trials - neither made the team but out of 20 kids, Sydney placed 8th with a 52.05 and Love 14th with 51.1
Skye Blakely, Kayla DiCello and Sydney Barros (!!) made the team with Konnor McClain as travelling alternate.

Does anyone know what happened to Mary? I was just looking at her over dramatic last 2 gymschool videos, where she implied everything would be set straight. That was almost 2 years ago.

Re: Gymscool Part 2
I had totally forgotten about her until I saw she commented on Sydney's instagram post about the American Classic lol. She said "Yay Syd!!! So glad you got to see Miss Kim!!! Wish I could have been there!!!" and Sydney just said thank you back so who knows honestlyRazzleDazzle46 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 9:15 pmDoes anyone know what happened to Mary? Sydney Morris came 10th at the US Classic with a 53.1 and Sydney Barros came 2nd with a 55.3! Heartbroken for Emma Malabuyo though, poor girl hasn't been able to catch a break for a while

Re: Gymscool Part 2
Sydney M is a fantastic little gymnast but just isn't blessed with the raw athleticism and explosiveness needed to compete AA at elite level, she can definitely score a few tenths higher on bars and beam but I don't see much scope for improvement on the 'power events.'

Re: Gymscool Part 2
Good for her! And a full academic scholarship at that!
I know SUU is the school "Coach Kim" is associated with! Anyone know what her role with the gymnastics program is? I know she does the summer camps, but does anyone know if she is associated with the team during NCAA season or is a former athlete there? I've tried to Google on several occasions and failed, lol. Should be great to have that support system nearby!
With Hailey & Katie Orrs announcement, who do we have left from gymscool ( or association with that group) that may do college gym? I can think of :
Sydney Morris - if still eligible(the big if!) She is doing great in elite, but haven't seen any indication as to where she is interested.
Sydney Herz - really curious where she will end up! Looks like she went to camp at Temple University!
The Snyder twins - too young to hear anything until after their HS sophomore year due to the recruiting rule changes. They competed HOPES this summer!
Aaliyah Gilmore -The only other one I used to think could make it to college level. IG says she is training level 10.
Other : Whitney Bjerken seems interested in Alabama!
Who am I missing?

Re: Gymscool Part 2
Delighted for Katie/Peanut, I don't think anyone would have predicted this outcome towards the end of her time at First Class. Sydney M received a prospectus and invitation to tour Oklahoma's campus a few years back and I seem to remember seeing her wearing their merch in a fairly recent social media post.

^ I started watching Youtube back in the day with the videos of the Leblanc and Donnelly families, and the Coral Girls were a big part of those vlogs. That's why I'm still kinda interested in the careers of these girls. - I do appreciate the updates in this thread, thanks.

I know this is a Coral Girls thread, but do you know why/when Whitney decided Elite/Olympics is not her goal anymore? (I saw comments on Instagram)f4k_oyevey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2019 8:31 pmGood for her! And a full academic scholarship at that!
