Ruby Granger- UK's "study guru", she's 17 years old Hermione Granger psychofan and unfamous for +15h study with me's and Hermione impersonations. She has over 130k subscribers, of which 30k she got only last month. Her channel seems to grow very rapidly.
Guys honestly what do you think about her. She seems a bit creepy in many ways tbh
Her hobby is studying which is ok, but she studies ALL the time, even on occassions like Christmas when she complains that because of the guests she couldn't study more
She seems to wear children clothes all the time, is friends with much younger youtubers who are also HP fans and is trying to be "like Hermione from 1st book". Have a look at this video for example:
"Having an evening similar to Hermione Granger- what pyjamas she would wear, dressing gown, slippers". She more videos of that kind like "How to act like Hermione on a plane" "How to act like Hermione when you're ill" etc.
There are many good channels on productivity but she really presents a bad influence, promoting not only posh and strict lifestyle but also unrealistic goals like studying for 15 hours straight without any social life or hobbies apart from being productive. She even has young girls who basically copy her content

Re: Ruby Granger
She's popped up in my recommendations a few times, the first time I saw her I just thought this cannot be for real. I understand wanting to have good grades and having goals but I could never ever imagine studying for 15 hours in a day, that is not healthy in the slightest and to be honest a bit worrying...

Re: Ruby Granger
The other thing about studying for fifteen hours in a day is that it's genuinely not necessary at all...if you are studying that much, then I have to imagine you're not using that time super wisely and need to do some serious work on figuring out better study techniques. Work smarter, not harder and all that.
I think she seems like a sweet girl and a kind person, though.

Oh so miss goody two shoes is promoting a real leather rucksack for school... As a vegetarian. Congrats
Re: Ruby Granger
this is the problem I have with her and other similar channels. there’s no reason someone in high school should be studying 15+ hours a day. its so unnecessary and it feels like its just to appear smarter/more productive in an attempt to get praise, when in actuality the exact opposite is true, its just a waste of time.paperdoll12 wrote:The other thing about studying for fifteen hours in a day is that it's genuinely not necessary at all...if you are studying that much, then I have to imagine you're not using that time super wisely and need to do some serious work on figuring out better study techniques. she seems nice enough, definitely acts young for her age though which makes me feel for her a bit (I’m guessing her immaturity resulted in a lot of the bullying she talks about)

Also I can't understand why people are so butthurt she didn't get to Oxford. Sorry but to me she isn't extraordinary intelligent, she just gets good marks and spends her days studying. Main issue I see here is that when she spends 15h a day studying in high school how much time would she actually need in Oxford. She wouldn't manage lol.
She seems to have no contact with people her age, I don't mean she has to party or be into stuff other teens are but she is so young and she can chill out at least sometimes. Instead of spending some time with people her age she sits whole day studying or reading in her room.
Re: Ruby Granger
She’s a 17 year old, she’s still a kid and she’s into Harry Potter and is academic - really doesn’t seem like she’s doing anything wrong. There are plenty of teens plastering their faces with make up for hours on YouTube or doing pranks or covering songs - what’s wrong with a girl who wants to go to a good university and study? She’s just doing her thing, let her be.
Re: Ruby Granger
I found this girls channel today and I watched a load of her videos. When I found out she was 17, I’m in total disbelief. This girl acts like an 11 year old at most. Saying that she only does A Levels, she definitely is stretching her work out for longer periods of time. This is coming from someone who got As in my A Levels. I don’t understand what she will end up doing at University? I saw in one of her videos that she can’t be left home alone because of anxiety. But if she were to have the Hermione Granger wxperience living away from home there’s no way she’d cope. With the amount of drinking and socialising and what not in first year of Uni she seems in a massive bubble. She seems like a nice girl but what is she going to do outside academia? With all of the USS strikes going on at UK university at the moment it seems like a career to avoid.

Re: Ruby Granger
I'm at uni currently and find it so strange that these people study for this long... I got 2 A's and a B at a level (not the best, but better than lots of people) and never did 15 hours studying a day. I'm averaging a high 2:1 in my first year and probably don't spend 15 hours studying a WEEK some weeks, let alone in one day. I hate to imagine what these study youtubers will be like at university - there simply isn't the time for these 15 hour study days unless you literally do not want any form of social life.

Ruby doesn't seem to have any social life either way. Once she showed a "party" she attended and it was cringy at least. Also these girls seemed to be much younger than her.jiggy_girl wrote:I'm at uni currently and find it so strange that these people study for this long... Of course nothing bad about that if it wasn't for the fact she seems to not socialize at all wth people her age and behaves like a 11 year old. She even dresses up in abercombie kids. I mean, my friend who is quite short sometimes buys at kids section, but with Ruby is just that she's childish as fuck. Even her younger sister seems to be more mature than her and seems to lead a normal life (at least compared to Ruby's). Her sister's example shows that Ruby seems to be like that just by herself, not because of home enviroment and parents. They are so different I couldn't believe they are actually sisters lol.

Re: Ruby Granger
I find it very odd that a 17 year old aspires to be just like an 11 year old fictional character. Undoubtedly a lot of her immaturity must stem from that, as well as her very sheltered, privileged lif attending a small all-girls private school. I couldn’t imagine anyone like her getting by in the inner city comprehensive I went to.

Re: Ruby Granger
I almost feel that Ruby is someone who would really benefit from a gap year before going to university - an extra year might be really helpful considering she comes across as quite immature a lot of the time. I think she's a really nice girl, but a lot of her behaviour seems slightly worrying in the sense that I wonder how she would cope away at university once she's thrust outside of her current bubble. I almost think her YT channel isn't helping her at all - it seems to be allowing her to be entrenched in this emulating Hermione thing.

Re: Ruby Granger
It's even visible in comments on her videos how sheltered she is. Every time anyone dares to criticise her or say (the truth) that her obsession with 11 year old Hermione is a bit weird, they get attacked by her fans for being "haters". So she thinks it's them who's wrong here, not her. Her yt channel feeds her perfectionism. No one says it's unhealthy to study this much, instead it's "goalzzzz" "I want to be you Ruby!". Her fans want to be her not being concious how much Ruby's life is boring. She doesn't seem to evolve in any other areas than school knowledge.
Also as I said before, she should think about it really. How much time would she need to study in Oxford / any other uni when she needs 14h a day in fucking high school...

Okay so I’m not saying that all private school kids are like this but from my experience at uni, one of the girls I lived with went to private school. University for her was a huge culture shock because she went to a very small private school; you go there from infants to sixth form, so essentially they’ve been surrounded by the same like minded people for most of their lives. Then when they are thrown into the University lifestyle, some break down others end up acting totally different because of this new freedom and all of the new people that they are around from different backgrounds. We have this experience when we go into year 7 into “big school” but they don’t get that

Re: Ruby Granger
Is she seriously reading while brushing her teeth in the morning routine video? That doesn't look normal to me, and this is coming from a bookworm.

Re: Ruby Granger
This morning routine video is very worrying. She is only 17 years old. She should relax a bit because atm she's more stiff than my grandma. Actually watching her makes me sad sometimes. I don't imagine her functoning in a normal world outside of her parents' house and small private school. I just can't.

Re: Ruby Granger
She recently popped up in my suggestions, probably from BookTube videos. At first I was overwhelmed at her study habits and wondered why on earth she was spending every minute of the day organizing notes or studying, or on breaks quick stretches and organizing their grocery lists and pantry shelves. She is obsessed with these things. Then to see her constantly pretending to be Hermoine (I am guessing since Hermoine's parents were dentists, that explains her obsession with cleaning her teeth?) and how childish she is, no wonder she didn't get into Oxford. It is fine to have role models, but fictional ones are just that. Pretend...and Hermoine never grows up into a full adult. We never see that process. Better for her to admire Emma Watson and stop play-acting. But she needs a healthy lifestyle. Yes, her videos are very repetitive because that is how her life is. Very strict routine and very narrow. How many times can you show a study session or daily vlog with you getting out of bed, lighting candles, opening the window for fresh air, having breakfast, brushing your teeth, going outside in your backyard for a walk? Her parents must be weirdos to support this shallow behaviour at age 17. Very scary. She has a lot of growing up to do and some major reality checks. She will never fit into the real world.
