Re: Karima McKimmie
What's wrong with her eye? It has a black line around the white eyeball. At first I thought she had eyeliner transfer, but it's in every video.

Re: Karima McKimmie
It's the remnants of scar tissue from optic surgery. It's a freak thing, one of those "one in a million" jobs and hers was the exception and didn't heal as it should have.
Unfortunately Karima has been plagued for years with problematic eyes; she had been suffering from dizziness, impaired vision, vertigo, migraine, nausea- hell driving and attending uni lectures had become impossible. She also has/had a lazy eye I think? IAR eye spasms- the ones we all occasionally get from time to time, but hers are a wee bit intense- nothing major but thought I'd share.
To correct that scar tissue, she did laser and some other procedure, neither resolved the scar tissue. So she was all set for a VERY complex yet risky surgery to hopefully correct it for good, but at the eleventh hour sought a second opinion and was told to absolutely abstain from that surgery at all costs. The specialist said even if she was offered 1 million dollars she'd decline. Well there you have it. She has a whole blog post about it.

I like Karima. I think she's classy and knows her stuff. Yeah, she's a touch of a high-end snob, but I don't think she's particularly hurting for cash.

Re: Karima McKimmie
I can see where she might come off that way. I just learn a fair bit from her tutorials and product reviews. I don't really watch any personal videos she does.
However, I do wish she'd feature more mid-range priced products from time to time. Sadly, Rouge Bunny Rouge is not in my budget.

Thank you for explaining. Sounds like she went through so much. She's pretty and I love her accent, but I find myself skipping her videos for some reason.Spenderr wrote:It's the remnants of scar tissue from optic surgery. Re: Karima McKimmie
I think she's got pretty good taste and I like her makeup, but I just cannot get into her. I've thought about this before, because she's growing so slowly, despite having pretty good quality stuff and the same management team as Lauren Curtis and Chloe Morello. I think she just really lacks an it factor. I've really tried to like/support/watch her, but I seriously can't. She's just so forgettable, which in this world is almost worse than being hateable.

Re: Karima McKimmie
Out of the few Aussie youtubers I would prefer her to be our star but from what Ive read and have interpreted she would be even worse. Up herself with expensive tastes.
Could even be more unbearable than Lauren....

Re: Karima McKimmie
I actually like Karima, but I wonder about how she got to where she is. Even before she had a YouTube channel or (semi) successful blog she hauled thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of designer makeup, shoes, clothes, and handbags and took frequent expensive vacations. She didn't have a job and is (still?) a uni student in some liberal arts field. She also talks a bunch about going to photo shoots and video shoots, but I never see any images of her anywhere but her own platforms. Is/was she a model, or was she just born into an incredibly wealthy family, or is there some other reason?

Re: Karima McKimmie
I watched her collab video with Monika Blunder, where monica does her makeup and just chats with her. In it, she asks karima what her goal is--if she wants to have a product out or something. Karima answered "I just want to build my following until I can monetize it." Like wth. I found that so incredibly tacky. I'm sure everyone who gets into youtube nowadays wants that, but to say it out loud to your viewers is so ridiculous. Aloof is a good word to describe her, because I don't think she cares at all about any of her subscribers--they're just a means to an end.

Karima McKimmie
It makes me sad to learn about this. I felt like like she was the antithesis of the Jaclyn Hill types and wasn't all about the money. I began to suspect something was up when she started to rave about the Champagne Pop crap. I no longer have the respect for her that I once had.milanese15 wrote:I watched her collab video with Monika Blunder, where monica does her makeup and just chats with her. What is meant by Jaclyn Hill types? I've never watched her but she keeps popping up on other youtuber's boards.Conogirl wrote: It makes me sad to learn about this. I felt like like she was the antithesis of the Jaclyn Hill types and wasn't all about the money.

Karima -- I liked her initially but after a few months, I unsubscribed. She lacks that IT factor/charisma that people are talking about. I like how professional her videos are but sometimes, I think they're too rehearsed and it makes me uncomfortable. Yeah, she's a high-end snob, and I can see the aloofness too.
As for the Monika Blunder chat, at least she was honest about it. Her channel didn't strike me as the "I'm doing YouTube for fun" type. It was a calculated move to expand and put her name out there. Owning a blog can only do so much.

I love Karima but her inexplicable love for Jaclyn Hill just puzzles me a lot. Girl, Jaclyn does a whole bunch of makeup stuff that you hate so why on earth are you all starry eyed over her?

Re: Karima McKimmie
I mean, yeah it's honest, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I don't think she should try to manipulate her viewers Jaclyn style into thinking she cares more about them than she does. But there was no diplomacy in that sentence, which gets to the root of her problem--a lack of the charisma and sociability to make it. I honestly think she has all the pieces to be successful, so the fact that she's been stuck in the 100k subscribers mark for so long speaks to there being something else. She has very few instagram followers too, where personality/entertainment factor matters less. She's been doing this for years and her management has hustled for her--Chloe gives her shoutouts and she was featured in Vogue Australia. But she's already been eclipsed by people like danielle mansutti (who is just terrible imo).

Re: Karima McKimmie
Some incredibly perceptive peeps here, you PICKED UP ON ALL THE GLARING DETAILS regarding this fraud like we did. You all would've been a welcome to our old Shameless Fripperies thread- which was unfortunately shut down by a mod only a few days ago, due to an insidious parasite who made it unsafe territory.
Like you, detected Karima's inconsistencies, bullhittery, copying and airs. It is a shame I have to reiterate and repeat myself here, considering it is a brand new topic and brand new peeps, here goes.
When I first stumbled upon her, my bullshit meter Immediately went off. I glanced at the comments to see if others saw the blatant SWF of Lisa Eldridge, to my dismay only a few people did but out of those few, two called it for what is was, a copy cat knock off of Lisa, one noted Lisa Wannabe, another said she was patronising. Her fawners are naive to think this girl earned her "stripes" honestly.
There are MANY aspects to contend with, and loads of discrepancies, and this shocking zeal and effort to cull and perfect a personality not of her own, but of a multitude of "gurus" meshed together is mindboggling. Why? I kept wondering why she desperately needed to do this, but it struck me that without the tailored traits, the damned script and thesaurus, it was plain obvious that Karima couldn't film and suffers from an identity disorder and inferiority complex. Even more unfortunate is that she is a shallow person who is a brand snob and copycat.
She is pitifully bohrink without hijacking Lisa and Co, so bohrink it's painful. Why this need for perfection, to always sound smart and seem interesting Karima? Be an original- be YOU and allow OTHERS to enjoy YOU for YOU. No, it would't do, then everyone would've run up a tree and never tune in, because real talk, the real you isn't all that charming is it? Without your trusty script, your put ons, the researched know how's from others, you'd be bland and your channel dismal. This would've still been acceptable, granted not everyone can be a charmer and nor do we expect you to charm our pants off- but it would've been YOU. But alas you prefer to be in the shadow of others, we expect honesty, genuineness and authenticity from you.
She lacks the appeal of the Chloe's who'll sweep her audience off their feet with her quirky lighthearted humour and abilities, and not taking herself seriously. Nor can she achieve the talent of the Sharon's, and drive of the Shannon's who's work ethic is unbelievable. She barely pushes out 1 scrawny video a week, and 80% of the time it's repeats and stolen ideas. She'll never reach their milestones because no merits nor talent of her own. No one expects a charmer but we do appreciate integrity.
It appears every facet of her "PHILOSOPHIES;" whether it be skincare or foundation, weren't ever hers to begin with! She thieved them, from her precious Lisa, to Josh Collier, to The Black Panties and Seth Barton Roberts to name a few; absconded with "their philosophies" and "their" products and their routine and regimens and started a channel.
It's not enough to idolise Lisa, but to be Lisa 2.0 with her vocabulary and her mannerisms, the white background, her rings, when Karima is in fact a plain Jane and can't be botherd with rings and painted nails often, but for filming heck yes, she wont skip a beat. She had two rings and strategically placed them like Lisa, then custom made a yellow stone cuz ya know, she wasn't Lisa enough. She would annotate what her nail color was all the time- and when she saw my comments regarding it, she has since ceased. Her original Shameless Fripperies introduction was a copy of Lisa's intro. Her annotations of products, the flaming brush from Suqqu to the Boots 17 Nude lip liner, and the unique Chanel brush for "pin point concealing" used like Lisa and more, are all the tell tale signs of a blatant copycat.
Even with Rouge Bunny Rouge, she cannot be credited for, it wasn't her clever original find, it was Seth whom ought to be credited.
Ok rant over.

Re: Karima McKimmie
Wellll, what bothers me about Karima's vids isn't that they are scripted, or that she lacks in the je ne sais qois that has garnered YTers like Chloe so many subscribers. Everyone's different, and I can appreciate a carefully planned video perhaps more so than one that the guru puts almost no thought into, yet still rakes in the same amount of, or more, cash. She's also knowledgeable, which leads me to believe that she's the type of person who does her research before she films.Spenderr wrote:Some incredibly perceptive peeps here, you PICKED UP ON ALL THE GLARING DETAILS regarding this fraud like we did. What I DON'T like about her is how disingenuous she is with her viewership. She definitely sees YT and her blog as a means to some end, and makes no bones about it--which end that is, I honestly don't know. She's obviously already wealthy and has never had to hold down a real job in her life as far as I know (although she did work a some cosmetics counter for an undetermined period of time). Perhaps she wants to make a name for herself?
I belong to another forum that I will not name, which Karima also visits frequently. It's quite clear that she uses that website as a no-cost and highly effective focus group. She posts her professionally photographed blog photographs there as "FOTDs" (I don't recall her posting any original makeup looks exclusive to that site on even one occasion) and asks for CC. She mines the comments on her posts and boldly reuses the suggestions in later videos, presenting them as if they were her own revelations, often as nearly word-for-word plagiarism. I've seen this OVER and OVER again, and I'm pretty sure she never goes anywhere without the intent of furthering her own prospects. I wonder sometimes if Karima is a sociopath or something similar. She obviously has little regard for her fellow man, feeds on praise, and unapologetically rips off followers and other vloggers/bloggers alike. YET there are times when she is kind. She's really a confusing character.

Or you could do a spring/ summer tutorial seeing as AUSTRALIA IS GOING INTO SPRING AND SUMMER WHO KNOWS.
