Hi GGers,

I wasn't sure if there was a topic like this already (I apologize in advance if there is) but if not, what are some of your favorite books that you'd recommend others? Preferably, please list them under their genres like below. Thanks!

Just finished Gone Girl by Gilligan Flynn. The Informat by Taylor Stevens is addicting as well. Just started the 2nd one in the series called "The Innocent" and it's really good as well.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman is one of my favorites and it's gonna come out in theaters next month so I think it would be a good one to read! I also read Gone Girl and really enjoyed it.

A Song Of Ice And Fire (Game of Thrones) by George RR Martin
-If you are a fan of the show and haven't read them they are a perfect way to keep yourself preoccupied while waiting for the new season

The Maze Runner by James Dashner
-A post apocalyptic type novel. With a male protag, a breath of fresh air in the genre full of female leads (although I'm not complaining). Thrilling and exciting. Also an easy read. I read it in less than a week. Also recommend the series too.

Orange Is The New Black by Piper Kerman
-VERY different from the show, but still really good. The real Piper is much cooler than TV Piper, same with Larry.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

I have more but look at me writing summaries haha! I had to check my goodreads to see what I've read and liked a lot.

Chick-lit
If you are looking for easy-read summer chick lit, I would of course recommend Sophie Kinsella - of Shopaholic fame

The Devil wears Prada is another.

Murder Mysteries/ Crime thriller
Alex by Pierre Lemaitre - absolutely AWESOME, highly recommend

Pride and Prejudice - don't be put off that it is old!

A Room With a View - Possibly my favourite book of all time, if you don't want to read it, at least watch the film!

Breakfast at Tiffanys - truman capote - another contender for my favourite book!

One of my favourite things to do is to dip in and out of Short story books of really famous authors, for example Oscar Wilde and F Scott Fitzgerald

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson is pretty good. It's kind of like The Mediator in that it deals with ghosts. It's a trilogy, but I haven't read past the first one so far. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell is one of my favorite books and her other book Eleanor and Park is really good too!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (Absolute favourite, beautiful prose and compelling story)
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs (Series in progress, the first two book are out, what's worth mentioning here is that the author uses vintage and creepy photographs in the books to give them an extra creepy element)

Cross Roads by William Paul Young was an amazing book for me (It's a Christian book).
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown is pretty good too (I think it's historical fiction, correct me if I'm wrong)
The Maze Runner (Amazing for young adults)

Some of my fav series

In Dead by JD Robb - Futuristic cop solving murder mysteries. I love the settling and how the writer integrates technology into this world she's created. Character development is excellent. I love them all and feel like I know them so well.

Young Wizards by Diane Duane - If you love magic and want a twist, then give it a try. Series for young adults, but well written.

Samaria Series by Sharon Shinn - Angels rule over men and other angels. I really liked this when I was younger....I can't read it as an adult lol BUT during that time of my life, I loved this series so dearly.

Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris aka True Blood Books - Read these way before I even knew the TV existed. Love it. Very well written. The tv show loosely follows the books. (Never watched the show)

Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs - a different take on werewolves. Main character is a shapeshifter. Really good character development.

Study series by Maria V. Snyder - Main character is spared from death, on the condition that she becomes a food taster.

** Most, if not all books listed are about strong, intelligent women. There is really good writing and character development.
