That's why I like her, she doesn't dumb herself down or cater toward girls who are a decade younger than her. I find it super frustrating that I can't find someone my age (mid twenties) who actually caters their videos to people my age. All of these twenty something girls make videos for 14 year olds.boston61 wrote:She does not draw big numbers. I don't think the teenyboppers watch her. Too bad she is cool.

I may be living "under a rock" but I just discovered Ruth. So far I really enjoy her, she seems intelligent and I find her a refreshing voice in the YT beauty/fashion community.

Re: AModelRecommends
I loved her channel about 2 years ago when she would do "model vlogs" from hotels/shoot locations. She seemed to use products to help her skin deal with the rigors of MUAs applying product and airplane skin issues. Now she seems like a PR machine/infomercial because she's not so much a model, more a stay at home MA student and so her skin doesn't take abuse from tons of MUAs manipulating her skin.
Her first Christmas gift guide was great but I was turned off that there was no giveaway after she went through lovely yet extremely expensive products.
Now she's hitched her wagon to the DailyMix crowd..

Re: AModelRecommends
I agree with this. I found her easier to relate to then.
I still really like her as a person, and I do still look forward to her videos. However I don't take her recommendations as seriously anymore, as she does really just seem to have become a PR machine like BebeSwan said. She has so many different products etc sent to her that I feel that not many of those products are getting a real chance to be tested properly.
Every video has begun to feel like I'm watching an advertisement of some kind.

Lol she filmed her March Favorites video in her "beauty room". Looks like she gets sent so many products she allotted a whole room to store them!

I really like Ruth. She obviously is/was a successful model, I mean not high fashion but commercial. I like that her style isn't trendy at all, which is nice for a youtuber. I think all her videos are really good and she seems intelligent. It's interesting to see where she will go from here. Only think for me is all the products she uses are out of my budget so I don't even really bother looking at some of her beauty vids anymore. I like her make-up vids though.

Re: AModelRecommends
Yes. I don't think I can ever recall Ruth using many drugstore brands. I like the fact that no matter what look she is doing in tutorials etc she doesn't use too many products all over her face. The fact that she uses so few products to get a look often makes the look more affordable I think? She tends to just keep things simple and I like that.
I also like that she places a lot of emphasis on skincare. Having a good base to put makeup on makes such a huge difference and I like that she clearly puts research into what different ingredients do for the skin as oppossed to just slapping it on and stating that it works/doesn't work.

Re: AModelRecommends
Lol she calls Clinique Clarifying Lotion "napalm for the skin". But yet that stuff cured my acne (in conjunction with Clinique Facial soap for oily skin).
And I'd spent tons of money on dermatologists which did nothing for my acne.
Anyhoo..

Love her! She was a big model I remember seeing her on covers, advertisements & editorials all of the time when I was in HS. She's beautiful & stylish in an effortless way. Like everyone else has said her skincare recs & reviews are really great & she really makes me want to buy so many things that she recs.

I like her a lot. If anything, I would say she needs a rave thread.instinctlady07 wrote:Has she a thread? did look but couldnt find one. Any thoughts?!?
She has over 170,000 subscribers. Shouldn't she be in the main section?

A Model Recommends
I've been watching Ruth Crilly for a while now. Surprised there is no thread about her!
Although I like her there are things that irritate me, mainly her nonchalance to everything
Her what's in my bag post is so rude and her "couldn't care less attitude" is just vulgar, rude and ungrateful. She making a livelihood from You Tube. Play the game or shut up.
Her interview with Liz Hurley was embarrassingly BAD. The other presenter was far better
(apologies if there is a thread already)

Re: A Model Recommends
Wow Liz Hurley is so polished and classy. Had to chuckle at how Ruth seemed to keep her head turned to Ree, Ruth's modeling career is pretty much over while LH made the jump from model to icon.
I was subbed to Ruth years ago when she was still a real model and vlogged from hotels in NYC/Paris etc. I unsubbed when she vlogged from a pixiwoo modeling shoot for their digital magazine--I felt that marked the end of her true modeling days lol
Her Christmas gift guides became high end infomercials without any giveaways attached, which was a huge turnoff for me.
There's a thread on her in the Rave section but I feel it's appropriate to have one in the Trash section as well.

Liz Hurley was amazing in that vid wasn't she? She was eloquent and classy. Ree was very good too fair play and hid her nerves well but Ruth's inexperience, lack of preparation and nerves were obvious. It was cringeworthy watching her.
Ruth get sent a phenomenal amount of high end product to review or sponsor. If her "couldn't care attitude towards her 'What's in my handbag?' post is going to start appearing I will unsub.
Her make up tutorials are always slightly disappointing too. Cconsidering she has been around make up for years and has had so many MUA work on her with different looks her tutorials always appear the same, particularly her eye make up.

Re: A Model Recommends
well that's awfully entitled. Why should she have to do giveaways?high end infomercials without any giveaways attached
Re: A Model Recommends
I suppose it has something to do with the fact that she gets most things given to her so she might as well pass the goods along. Especially when it's a sponsored video, she may as well reward her subscribers for watching it.

Re: A Model Recommends
I used to really like Ruth. I liked her attitude and that she seemed so much more mature on camera than the likes of Tanya Burr etc.
Over the past couple of years though I stopped taking any of her recomendations seriously. It's always just a quick overview of the stuff she has been sent for free and a lot of it is incredibly high end. I love high end products, but put a lot of research into what I purchase as I don't want to waste my money and I just don't trust any of her reviews nowadays. As has been said they come across as infomercials and she's never seen using the products again. I don't feel like she really appreciates the price of some of these things due to the fact that she's getting them for free and her husband is wealthy.
I'm not a fan of her tutorials either. They are always quite samey and I just don't actually think she's that great at applying make-up. It often looks quite overdone and messy. I don't think she actaully has a face that can take many make-up looks.
I would also agree that I disliked her latest what's in my bag video a lot. I was actually really taken aback at how rude she seemed. There was just so little effort, and it showed a bad attitude to her subscribers. She doesn't usually come across so badly so maybe she was having a bad day or something?
I watched the documentry she was in years ago with Erin O' Conner (This model life) about her life as she was just starting out and was in lots of debt, had quit uni to model and nothing was working out for her. She was living in America at the time but had to come back to the UK as she just wasn't getting the jobs or money etc. I remember liking her then. She looks so young.

I have to admit I feared I would start to like her less when she signed up to Dailymix. Looks like my fears came true.

Such a spot on post Nin! Agree with all your points. I completely agree with your analysis of her recommendations. She's so blasé about everything, even high end products because she gets them all or most for freeNin wrote:I used to really like Ruth. I saw the documentary years ago! It's good.
She could do so much with that channel. I know she has other things-post grad/moving house etc but I feel she's been disengaged with this channel for a while now
How do you know her husband is wealthy? What is his occupation?
