I agree Evey genre get comment on left and right. I'm more of like really just opening a can of the same worms.oh_do_tell wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 10:57 amyou know romance as any other genre can be critiqued or commented on without someone taking it personally by the readers. In the end you read it for yourself and it doesn't matter what others think. If everyone bashed my favourite genres and books I wouldn't care a bit I love it and it's fine for having a different opinion. I'm saying this for Jack and any other person, I don't know who was attacked here on this thread before.

It's a relevant discussion to have and one which BIPOC authors constantly have but of course it took a white man saying it for the nice white ladies in romancelandia to talk about it and even still they're trying to pretend it's not an issue.Arriahj wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:01 amI agree Evey genre get comment on left and right. No it's not! Their covers never looked that botched. You can literally tell they photoshopped heads on people's bodies here.

Re: Booktubers | Part 11
God, I read People We Meet on Vacation for my GR Popsugar challenge and it was the whitest, mustiest, straightest nonsense I had read in a while. It was a hot mess, and it was the winner for the romance section. People have bad taste. And it was filled with a bunch of height references too. Lol, must be the current trope of the moment.TheBookishBabe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:08 amIt's a relevant discussion to have and one which BIPOC authors constantly have but of course it took a white man saying it for the nice white ladies in romancelandia to talk about it and even still they're trying to pretend it's not an issue.

Also there should be critique and negative opinion also, there is no point of talking only positive thoughts just so you don't offend someone.

Re: Booktubers | Part 11
A lot of the current romance features the same descriptions about men tall, blonde hair, and blue-eyed that's the only thing they have going for them. Occasionally to spice it up they're a bad boy too because all the ladies want them or because they own a motorbike.sofisticat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:14 pmGod, I read People We Meet on Vacation for my GR Popsugar challenge and it was the whitest, mustiest, straightest nonsense I had read in a while. Re: Booktubers | Part 11
So correct me if I'm wrong ,so the white women mad that a dude call out the romance book that damn near all the same. Now the white girls trying to gatekeep and seem like alot of them make these book their personality.
You know I was wrong on my last couple post. I remember seeing a tweet about why it's always IR relationships with a black person and another race but not another black person doing random fun shit.
Also some of these romance authors "A hit dog will holler"

Wait, but I thought (based on the linked thread) that this Jack guy was just ... making an observation? Like, I didn't get the vibe that he was criticizing anything, just pointing out a (value-neutral) thing. Like reading high fantasy for the first time and humorously going "guys, I think these authors might be into elves but don't quote me on that ".

Re: Booktubers | Part 11
That's how I read it as; something cheeky but not like, a mind blowing observation. I think plenty of people were ragging on The Love Hypothesis, on top of being Reylo fanfiction, was guilty of this. His tweet basically described it exactly.onionsocks wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:45 amWait, but I thought (based on the linked thread) that this Jack guy was just ... making an observation? Leave it to whiny white women to immediately begin gatekeeping the genre. They're no better than the sff dude bros mansplaining that sexism in old sff books is perfectly fine.

Wait, for real? This is what people are mad about? Oh, brother.
I'm an avid romance reader, and romance author, and I thought this was hilarious. People need to lighten the hell up.
