Next thread should be titled Con-man Franta, but I guess it wouldn't be entirely accurate, because he hasn't used his money schemes to scam his fans... but who cares it just sounds funny to me lol.

lol Yes the Phil icons!
How on Earth did I forget about Vessel? I've read arguments to support Vessel, like the money can fund filming and production costs, but that wouldn't even apply to Connor.

Ugh why did you have mention him joining Vessel, I totally forgot about that and now it's ruining the *flawless* image it had of him.
But seriously, how's the whole thing supposed to work? It won't take people two hours to find a way how to re-upload the videos posted on Vessel somewhere else which will ironically lead to YouTubers loosing money due to everyone watching their content for free.

Going to bring some variety into this thread with a Dan icon
It'll be interesting to see how Vessel works out. I'm not a fan of that and I certainly won't sign up, obviously, but it's a change within the whole youtube culture and it's going to be very interesting to see how viewers and youtubers deal with that.
On another note, did anyone else think that Connor's tweets from last night looked like shade towards Tyler again? He tweeted some of them during the liveshow Tyler did with Caspar for his birthday Trevor Project fundraiser.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
vessel does seem somewhat like a good idea, but badly performed. for starters, there will absolutely be people that'll download the paid videos. it's basically going to be the same as with porn. some poor idiots will actually pay to watch it, while the majority watches it for free, from someone that downloaded it and then shared it on free websites.
it's a good idea for some content creators. smaller youtubers that do a lot of projects, like kickthepj for example, could definitely use the extra money to fund the things they do. but instead vessel is signing up popular youtubers that don't need the extra money for their videos. connor is a vlogger, he does sketches every now and then, but it's nothing that'd require a budget. i think zoella is also signed or rumored to be signed, she's a beauty guru, she gets free shit all the time for reviewing, she also doesn't the extra money.
in theory, vessel really is a good idea. it gives youtubers a bigger cut for their videos, money that they can use for their projects. but in practice, it seems they're more interested in giving this to popular youtubers, who are vlogger types, instead of signing actually creative people that could actually make good use of that extra money.
the popular vloggers will attract people, and that's what vessel is thinking. but considering the videos will be up on youtube a couple days later, less people will be willing to waste their money to watch earlier. and if it's some videos that the youtuber made that's vessel only, there'll definitely be people downloading it and uploading it somewhere else

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
i like how winterbury brought up the possibility of youtubers (ironically) losing money because of vessel; it's certainly a possibly route this could go. vessel's success, however, will have to come from incessant plugging by youtubers who are involved. vessel hasn't received a lot of 'mainstream' advertisement, so far. people need to know why they should subscribe to its service in the first place.
hopefully it doesn't get too successful (and whoever's on there doesn't get too ahead of themselves).

Don't think Vessel's gonna to do too well to be honest, because who's gonna pay? Young people be to young and old people be too smart.
But it'll be interesting to see how youtubers like Connor will go about promoting it and what kind of drama will follow - can't wait! Connor I think will do well - he's already got his Audible plugging down to a t and his audience is uset to that - but I imagine others will do worse, to a lot of cringing and popcorn eating from me.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
Do you guys know how much Connor is making on Youtube? I read somewhere that Youtubers make about 0.3 $ per 1000 views. That's not a lot of money at all. Then there's the cut that goes to Google, his management etc. After that he's probably left with no more than 40 % of the money. Maybe he's plugging Audible because he has no choice? He doesn't make that much off Youtube, despite getting almost 1 million views on most of his videos.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
i think it's ~$3 per 1000 views, sometimes more if they're more popular. but it has to be views without adblock, it only counts views where you see ads. youtubers would be dirt poor if they were only making 3 cents per 1000 views. vloggers sponsoring products was barely a thing up until recently, it was mostly beauty gurus that did that. connor and other vloggers wouldn't be able to afford half the shit they buy, especially the ones constantly travelling, if they made such little money.
many youtubers don't do sponsored videos, or do them only in occasion, and they're doing fine. youtubers do sponsored videos for more money, but it's not a necessity

I swear I read an article that said Youtubers make 3 cents per 1000 views. Youtubers have money because they have other things besides youtube.. like merch etc. Youtubers do not make much money at all. I read somewhere that Google takes about 50 % of the cut.illegal_mind wrote:i think it's ~$3 per 1000 views, sometimes more if they're more popular. but it has to be views without adblock, it only counts views where you see ads. youtubers would be dirt poor if they were only making 3 cents per 1000 views. vloggers sponsoring products was barely a thing up until recently, it was mostly beauty gurus that did that. connor and other vloggers wouldn't be able to afford half the shit they buy, especially the ones constantly travelling, if they made such little money.

Ok, here it says that a Youtuber can make between 0.6 $ and 5 $ per 1000 views. I wasn't that far off then. Also, Google always take 45 % of the cut.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
Youtube partners aren't actually allowed to discuss how much they get paid its a violation of the youtube partner program or so I have heard so a lot of the numbers floating around are just speculation. Social
Blade estimates Connors earnings to be 30k to 489k annually. That's a huge range and I don't think it counts the merch and sponsorships so pinpointing how much he makes is nearly impossible but with all the endless jet setting and the hotels and other costs associated with traveling, it's safe to say he does all right.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
articles can't know shit, since that stuff is practically confidential. but i remember kleineganz, whose a youtuber and also a poster here, saying that youtubers make about $3 per 1000 views, sometimes $5. all depending on the contract with their network and how popular they are. google takes about 40%, and i think networks about 10%, but that still leaves the youtuber with a lot of money. most sell merch through districtlines, and only a few have their own stores, that means most of the money made from merch goes to districtlines or to have their own store open. their main income is videos, and a lot of them are very well off.rainbowme wrote:I swear I read an article that said Youtubers make 3 cents per 1000 views. they don't need sponsored videos to make a decent living. they can make enough from videos for that. the sponsored videos are just a bonus, and because it doesn't really take much work to just plug in a sponsor, it's something they can easily do many times, and therefore make a lot more money.
the amount of money they make, plus their lifestyle classifies youtubers as rich

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
Connor doesn't have a day job. He clearly is getting paid a pretty penny. He wouldn't have been able to move out on his own or heck even live in the large looking 02L house if he didn't make a decent amount of money. He has to pay a monthly rent which has to be around 600-1000 dollars (it's a 2 bedroom apartment). Plus water, gas, electricity, cable, internet, his phone bill, and food. Oh and he travels constantly as of late.rainbowme wrote:Do you guys know how much Connor is making on Youtube? I read somewhere that Youtubers make about 0.3 $ per 1000 views. He is clearly bringing in enough. I'm sure that audible plug gets him a decent amount of money. He might not be a millionaire (some youtubers are close though) but he is no where near poor at the moment.

He lives in LA. A 2 bedroom is a grand at a minimum. I bet that apartment is 1500-2000 a month.

Re: Connor Franta (CoffeeGuy) Part 3
Vessel was giving some creators up front millions of dollars. He probably didn't get quite that much; but he did seem to be paying the bill when he went shopping with Troye.
