My point exactly!!!!
I made sure I wrote that there is a big difference between the words 'wanting' and 'needing' when it comes to addiction but everyone chose to not understand it or not agree or whatever. Let Elle drink her wine and chug down her coffee, see how it gets her in the future lol

Holding a professional career & graduating college doesn't really equal responsible mature adult. Ingrid didn't complete her academic plans either & she's younger than Elle and doesn't talk about drinking hardly ever (except that totally random video w Sawyer) so it can't be that.

I don't think it's like "drinking is cool, high five everyone who parties", it's more like "haha being a grownup is an illusion, I can't believe alcohol is legal & we're allowed to do this". Why is everyone so rigid about drinking around here? It's not a big deal & booze lowers your inhibitions so tweeting about being buzzed or having a hangover makes sense. Most of the time ppl are trying to hide their vulnerabilities. That's why we like drinking, to let the guard down a little, idk...

*for the record, I'm talking like 2 glasses or wine or a few beers, not half a bottle of Smirnoff.

There's nothing wrong with drinking. It's just profoundly annoying/pathetic that she feels the need to go on and on about, like in the wine video, and in tweets. Almost everyone here sees that she gives off the vibe that she thinks drinking makes her cool. I think you're the only one who doesn't get that from her haha.

I think people here blow it a little out of proportion. Like if Elle's tweet were on my Facebook newsfeed that day it would've fit in perfectly with everyone else I'm friends with (who are all around Elle's age or older). No one went on and on about how much they drank, but lots of people had little one liners about being hungover or too much champagne, etc.

She seems to hang out with people younger than her (like Ingrid) who are still in that mindset of "getting wasted is AWESOME." If she'd graduated college and gotten a professional job or gone to post-graduate study, she would probably have outgrown this mindset.
This assumption doesn't sit well with me. First of all, Ingrid has never expressed the same mentality toward alcohol like Elle has. If anything, Ingrid has been much more mature toward alcohol than Elle. I know people who have graduated college and work full time or are in grad school and work and they are just as immature about alcohol as Elle. I, on the other hand, have never gone through the same mentality as Elle about alcohol. Maybe when I was 15 but I don't remember. I know people who are still in school who approach alcohol maturely and don't gloat about being hungover and what type of alcohol they drink or the quantity. It all depends on the person. But I know too many older people who still get wasted every night.

Elle treats alcohol like she treats everything else in life; it's this novel concept and it's special. Her stupid hot water bottle that she thinks is a European concept except it's been in the United States for a while. Her deaf cat that she treats like he's the king of her universe. She just thinks she's special for drinking so much. She treats it with this fascination that doesn't match up to how years she's been exposed to it. It doesn't really make sense. But then again, Elle lives in her own deluded bubble where she uses social media to attract attention to herself from 10 year olds. It just make she feel better when young girls praise her for no reason.

Bottom line, Elle is just a big adult-child that has been spoiled her entire life who is seeking attention from tween girls on the internet.

Obviously I'm not the only one though or there would be no discussion :? I think it's split pretty evenly between ppl who for some reason have opinions about her alcohol consumption, ppl who share her habits & those who really dgaf.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think she was tweeting it to seem "cool", I think she was tweeting it because it's something that a looot of people could relate to on New Years Day. Same reason why people on my FB & Twitter were saying the same kind of thing. It's a holiday known for people getting drunk, why wouldn't she tweet about having a hangover when she (and millions of others) probably had one? It's not like she tweeted out 10+ tweets on NYE being like "OMG I'M SO DRUNK" - now THAT I would understand people saying "she's just saying it to seem cool", but one tweet? Seriously?

kathpt wrote:AHAHA I commented on here once saying that it sounded an awful lot like she could develop an addiction and people went off on me. So... apparently a touchy subject, I don't think it's a good idea to bring that up again
Lol, people went off on me once for the same topic. People are VERY touchy when it comes to their right to drink and it's very, very weird. As I said, I don't give a shit if someone drinks and if they want to go do lines too that's your prerogative. I don't care what anyone does as long as it doesn't affect me personally. I still think it's pathetic to only have one topic to talk about (drinking) though, and excess of anything is bad for you. And if you're someone who legit thinks you're cool just because you drink or do drugs... yikes.

This is what I was thinking. If she were to tweet about being drunk tonight or hungover tomorrow then ok, gf has a problem but it was the holidays.

When I think of ppl who consider drinking & parties to be cool, I think of Remi Nelson & losers who tweet themselves taking shots etc. It's not like Elle tweets & IGs bottles of liquor or anything. Like someone else said, her wine hobby is as much a novelty as her writing & running "hobbies". It's the whimsical idea of sitting with a glass of wine & a book that appeals to her. I'm not gonna lie, it sounds appealing to me too but I never do that when I drink :P

It wasn't just one tweet. She's mentioned it time and time again. In videos, in blog posts and in tweets. It's annoying and quite pathetic.

lol so she mentions drinking once every few months and she's annoying and pathetic? I agree with baconpancakes, it's not like she's one of those people who constantly posts pictures of her taking shots, holding drinks, etc. I've literally only heard/seen her mention drinking like 3-4 times. And I'm not including her mentioning wine because that's not the same thing as "talking about drinking/getting drunk to seem cool".

^ Agreed.

I'm not trying to start a fight w anyone. I was just sort of defending myself against other posters who said I was the only one who had no issue w Elle drinking. And like I said, I am clearly not the only one.
