I'm way too tired to wade super into the debate, because: Monday and adulting is hard. Also I neither agree with ethnic slurs as comedy, nor cancel culture / repeatedly dredging up the indiscretions of (basically) children, so pretty much both sides of the coin have shit smeared on them. So there's that.

But I find it kind of funny how selective people here are in their definition of diversity when two latinas' names are literally mentioned in this page of posts?

And I don't know about y'all, but I'm pretty sure Todd's background isn't Swedish.

Even Jeff joked in one of his earlier Barbershop vids asking David why he didn’t have any black ppl in his vlogs I do give David credit for always knowing how to balance out the female male energy of his Videos though

Thats more a recent thing, late last year there was never enough females in the vlogs if you ask me. But that was just more of a reflection of who he was hanging out with. These days we get a ton of Erin, Carly and Natalie.

While I love our guys, I wanted some female energy. The random Corinna pop-ins weren't enough . I appreciate seeing Carly come into her own and she cracks me up.

Sidenote, I'm Black and I saw the whole Erin n-word debacle as a super drunk girl saying stupid things stark freaking naked at that! I didn't take offense even though that word isn't in my vocabulary because it wasn't used as an attack word on a Black person. Just like I took no offense to David and him typing the n-word with 'q's' on twitter 6 years ago. It's not like when Jeffree used the word as an attack word years ago.

Also just to add, only because inaccuracy is a pet peeve of mine...

Although there is some debate concerning where the Lebanese fall in relation to other Arab races, prevailing thought for the purposes of this discussion would also suggest that Zane isn't white.

And BigNik and Liza are Indian, even if only former VS members.

Point being comments like "the friend group is whitewashed, boooo" are BS, as far as I'm concerned.

Because I currently have old vlogs playing, I have to say, same. Not discounting that they definitely had their issues, but we mostly heard about those elsewhere. David showed the cute or funny or silly of them for the most part.

I'm currently watching when Todd chugs beers, spins and successfully shoots a target off Corinna. Always liked that bit.

Aren't all of them first generation Americans since at least one parent was from another country and none of those people from Europe proper?

If you're using the 18th century definition of race then heck bignik and Liza fall under caucasian.

If you're using skin color alone then east asians to you are also white.

If you're using what most people consider to be minorities then all people who have non-european heritage are minorities and have all experienced discrimination in America to varying degrees.

Heritage isn't the same thing as race, and you don't have to be from Europe to be white. Lebanon for example was conquered by both Romans and Arabs so there are both white people and Arab people that live in the country today. Plus Zane's father identifies as white and his mother is white so I don't see how his race would be anything else. Also please give examples of their non-white features because I'm not seeing them. Even Zane's aquiline nose is a common feature of Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Nordics which are all white.

I foresee issues defining what white is. I actually read an interesting article on Jewish people and race awhile ago that broke it down well. It’s mainly that, iirc, people get confused by looks white and if the history stems from Europe. It’s basically a mess because it’s a social construct that’s cobbled together and often used to justify terrible things.

As far as Erin’s use of the N word. It’s so wrong. Maybe she’s grown and changed, idk. All you have is that it hasn’t reoccurred on camera but if it’s a decade or whatever later I guess you hope she’s has.

Ethnic diversity is still diversity.

And anyway, my two cents is that the conversation is better-served moving along to less contentious (on-topic) territories, because the last time people were on about physical characteristics and race, everything went to hell in a handbasket, and I'm not here for it.
