I cringe so hard every time he sells something he just bought on Depop. He loses so much money, I bet some of the things could even be returned. And I agree with what you said about traveling (he can't travel in his current state), I just wanted to give an example of what he could spend his money on instead. Charles logic regarding buying and selling stuff for a fraction of the original price is definitely strange.
I don't think he necessarily wants to make a profit or cares about losses. He just wants to get rid of the stuff and "cleanse" his life of items that don't serve any purpose anymore. And when I say serve, I mean getting a high from.

But our Charles is not some sort of Marie Kondo. He's tried before to convince us that he's a minimalistic person. He's not. I think he gets rid of stuff because everything he does is permeated with a layer of shame, and many of those items are probably also connected to memories he doesn't really want to recall or events that stress him out. Because, basically, Charles gets stressed and anxious about everything. He can't handle life.
So I guess it's better for him to eliminate those items and just focus on his newest obsession.

Same thing regarding his bedroom. The first time I actually realised there was something truly wrong with Charles Gross was when I noticed how absolutely devoid of memories and decoration his bedroom is. It's not even hospital room type of empty. It's asylum cell levels of blankness.
There's nothing there - no books, photos, artwork, souvenirs. He doesn't want memories around, probably because he doesn't really have many of them, at least not of the happy type.

So that's why he gets rid of stuff and doesn't want many items around. He lives in the present, in a sedated one, trying to keep around as few things and memories as possible, because, as much as he wants to present himself as a proud and secure person with no regrets, he can't handle his past or his future, which he might be scared about.

He seems to think there's something incredibly rare and refined about people dressing for dinner. That is just one of a thousand dead give-aways of the fact that he's middle class, devoid of culture, and that his universe is extremely limited, his world view extremely narrow.
