Are we supposed to be impressed by her idea to read before bed for a week?
I mean, how revolutionary, to read for 30 minutes before sleeping. I’d never have thought of that myself.
“I INVENTED ‘reading after 10’”
I don’t dislike Ariel, but I get really frustrated by her superior attitude over incredibly simple ideas.

Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
I'm so angry that she got her viewers to pay for her stupid readathon website. She's so well connected, why not do a few sponsorships? Put out more videos and save your ad money for a while? Does she understand that most people, if they want something expensive, have to save for it? No, let's just have teenagers pay for it with their pocket money because they think you're goals. It's not like we're already tracking our reading on Goodreads anyway. As of right now, 17 people have paid $50. I wish these idiots would donate money to causes that actually need it instead of well off youtubers.

Like, I’m so so mad. It’s just a website. For a week long readathon.
Isn’t it like $10,000? Websites are not that expensive!

OMG I can't believe she is asking people for money. Has she no shame.
I watched her before and she was interesting because she did topic different from other booktubers, but now she is really annoying and pretentious and behaves like she is better than other booktubers and revolutionary.
Her asking for money is a new low. For me, it's fine to help people when they really don't have the means, like for a surgery or something similar, but an app?!
Like someone said she is famous, go find a sponsor.

Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
I've always thought Ariel had a lot of potential, and I still do, but think she's turned into a bit of a mess at the moment. I think she has a lot of really big ideas, but can't deal with the boredom and slog that is a part of doing any big project. Hence these bursts of inspiration to do a podcast or zines and big projects that don't really go anywhere.
I'm about her age and I can sympathise with her to a degree. It's that age where the grey cloud of jobs seems so daunting and miserable and you're too 'special' for a real job. So you decide you're going to avoid it and do something big and creative... and then you learn that the big creative stuff is actually exactly the same nuts and bolts as the normal stuff, except you don't have coworkers to be friends with or a boss to help you improve and you don't definitely get paid.
I really wish she would get a proper job for a bit, it would probably help her immensely to get up and go to work every day like a normal human.

Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
Does anyone else get the idea from her Instagram posts that she and Greg have broken up? I mean she drastically changed her hair, posted a bunch of nostalgic photos from years ago, and said it was the worst year of her life

I had the same tought few days ago. She hasn't mentioned him in ages, or at least it feels like that. She used to mention him quite frequently.Brittanyb wrote:Does anyone else get the idea from her Instagram posts that she and Greg have broken up? Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
Ariel mentioned in her last video that she is having a “existential crisis”. That with her behavior in today’s video seems to me that she’s kind of breaking down? Like obviously I don’t know if she is but she’s kind of acting like someone that’s having a hard time coping with stress and is succumbing to it. I hope she’s okay.
Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
I think it’s safe to assume Ariel and Greg have broken up. She seems constantly on the verge of tears in her new video and, I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems like she’s lost quite a bit of weight. That seems to be common after a tough breakup...

Her behavior reminds me a lot of Estee in the months after splitting with Aslan. I feel bad for Ariel, she and Greg seemed happy not so long ago.

I agree with what people have been saying. She did not look okay in that video. It looks like she's coping with something by laughing and trying to distract herself. I hope she feels better soon.

Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
I agree with a lot of what's been said here, but just adding my two cents that, imo, the writing was on the wall for Ariel and Greg a long time ago (even if our suspicions here are wrong, and they haven't broken up, this point still stands tbh). She did a Q&A a year or so back about long distance, and one of the questions was 'Where will you live?' (ie UK or Canada) - and the answer given was 'Both'; then Ariel went on to say, "leaving Canada behind, leaving my family and friends, I'm not interested in that." and then added (wrt Greg) "Same deal with your family!" She's gone on to say stuff like how she likes visiting London, but would never want to live there long term, despite that's where Greg seems to be making a name for himself with work now.
Like, I'm sorry, call me a cynic if you like, but if you're in a long distance cross-continental relationship and firmly state you have no interest whatsoever in moving countries, how the hell is that going to work in the long term?? The 'do both' thing only works if you know when the end of the 'doing both' will be; but in order to do that, you have to actually make a solid move to spending the majority of your time in one of those countries. I'm not sure what's going on, but it wouldn't surprise me if this issue finally caught up with them - and tbh I'm amazed it's taken so long to catch up with them.

Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
Agreed. Unfortunately LDRs only really work out if both people are actively planning to be in the same place eventually and that takes a HUGE and often uneven compromise. LDRs aren't really 'true' relationships (I say this as someone who was long distance for well over a year and have only been close to my partner again for a few months) LDRs are where you deal with 30% or so of what the relationship really is with the belief that its worth it to hold out for the 100% later down the line. If you just put off hashing out what the plan is, then you float in that 30% stage forever and it's miserable. It's probably better that one of them pulled the plug at this stage rather than one of them wrench themselves from a place they're really committed to staying and then regret it. She'll be okay in the end but if they split recently it's got to hurt like hell for some time.driftwood93 wrote:I agree with a lot of what's been said here, but just adding my two cents that, imo, the writing was on the wall for Ariel and Greg a long time ago (even if our suspicions here are wrong, and they haven't broken up, this point still stands tbh). Re: Ariel Bissett. Canadian booktuber.
What'd you guys think of her video about why she didn't like her master's? I kind of skimmed through it but it seems to me that her problem with it was more her school/program than the degree itself. I think it's important to talk about problems in higher ed but the way she does it has been rubbing me the wrong way.
Has anyone else noticed how often she apologizes for her privilege? I feel sad that she feels the need to do that >5 times a video but I know if she didn't people (and TBH myself included) would accuse her of not checking her privilege lol.

Okay, so one of the things that really confuse me about her is that she reads surprisingly few books. I mean don't get me wrong, reading 20-30 books a year would be a lot for most people, but I feel like it's just weird to have an entire channel (and huge parts of your personality lol) based on the fact that you read a book every two weeks.
