Good animes?

Post by chippy »

I thought I would post here and ask if any of you know any good animes for me to watch. I've noticed (from lurking haha) that a lot of you on here seem to watch them so why not try my luck?

A few animes that I have watched and really liked:
Mirai Nikki (aka future diary)
Death note, who doesn't love death note?!
Full metal alchemist brotherhood
Nana, the manga as well of course
Hyakko
Eve no Jikan (aka time of eve)

I mostly like light hearted, funny animes about high school life OR darker/slice of life animes that really leave you with an impression or make you think and question yourself.

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!! :)

Most of my favorite Animes are older - circa 1980s.
  • Macross
  • Southern Cross
  • Mospaeda
  • (The three mentioned above originally were edited together and aired as the series "Robotech" in the US, but I have since gone back and watched their original Japanese versions).
  • Go Lion (also marketed as Voltron in the US)
  • Sailormoon (only one on my list from the 90s)

Fairy Tail, One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho (my all time favorite, from the 90s but I still love it) - light hearted ones/fighting ones are usually my favorite haha.

I really couldn't finish Full Metal Alchemist. That episode with the daughter and the dog being fused together was too much for me x_x I actually don't watch too many serious ones but I used to live with someone who loved darker animes. My roommate used to watch Code Geass, Darker than Black, Death Note (which I surprisingly liked), Neon Genesis Evangelion (I watched this as a kid too, but didn't finish because it was just a lot of things to ponder as it was post-apocalyptic/more adult themed)

Thanks so much for all your replies guys! I've definitely got a good list to go through now :)
Pie I know what you mean about the dog/girl fusion, that was really creepy! But that's probably as bad as it gets. After that I was really into it which surprised me because I don't usually like animes involving lots of fighting/war stuff.
Bleh123 my sister watched that and said it was good so that's top of my list to watch :)
Zealous lace I started watching xxxholic but never finished. Def will go back to it :)

I second One Piece. If you liked FMA I think you'd like it.

Samurai Champloo (pretty light hearted)
Code Geass (darker/serious)
Honey & Clover (slice of life)
Eureka 7 (good light hearted/serious balance, romance)
InuYasha (pretty light hearted, romance)
Wolf's Rain (serious/makes you think)
Lovely Complex (light hearted, high school, shojo)

Oh,boy,where should I start!
1-st Gintama-I fell inlove so fast with this anime and the fact that it'll end soon is killing me.It has comedy, parody, badass action and some tearjerkers too.Almost no romance, but that's one of the pros.
Next Naruto-just avoid the fillers
Cowboy bebop-prepare tissues for the final ep. though
Samurai champloo
Maid-sama for the romance
Kami-sama hajimemashita-also shojo
Beelzebub
Sket dance-a child friendly Gintama
Great teacher Onizuka
Level E
One Punch man-of course
Yondemasuyo Azazel-san
Hoozuki no reitetsu
Strange +
Akatsuki no Yona
Ixion saga DT-lots of parodies
and many more :D
Not today,Satan,not today!
English isn't my first language and my autocorrect likes to go crazy! #excusethetypos

I second Fairy Tale. It's lighthearted but gets deep/dark when need be, I'm really enjoying the anime right now :love2:
