My boyfriend is American and when I told him where I lived when we first started talking, he had no idea what I was talking about.
New Brunswick? Northwest Territories?

Anyway, I'm from New York City. A very uncool part of one of the more uncool outer boroughs. I'm a 3rd generation New Yorker actually. But I'm being a traitor and moving to New Jersey after I graduate college. (my boyfriend is from there and it's one of the only places within easy commuting distance of the city that still has affordable rent, yet isn't THAT bad of an area. I see how it's going though, in 5 years it will be overrun with hipsters :( )
Manitoba!
I've definitely heard of Manitoba before and I'm American.

Same here! Although the only reason I'd originally heard of Manitoba is because I'm a hockey fan.

I was born in Ontario (Canada) but that was just an accident 8-) I'm technically from northern California.

I didn't realise the population of Latvia is so small. There are tons of Latvians in Ireland :)

I'm from Ireland. I do like it here really, all everyone does is complain and act like our lives are so hard but we really do have it pretty good compared to many places in the World.

both parent immigrated from Jamaica to good ole New Jersey, USA. Born and raised and will probably live here my whole life.

I would like to live and work in Japan for a couple of year though, probably won't happen but I can dream.

I'm from Oxford, UK. I've only lived in the UK - Oxford, Windsor and London, but I'd like to live further afield at some point.

Coolest little capital in the world, we like to call ourselves.

I love it here :)

Dublin in Ireland. I can't wait to leave here.

On the topic of surnames, I agree that many native ones are hard to pronounce. Even natives here can't pronounce my surname!

I am from, and still live in, San Jose CA. It's the tenth biggest city in the country and yet many people outside of California have not heard of it. Everyone knows San Francisco, which is just a bit north of SJ, even though they've got a significantly smaller population than we do. One million people live in San Jose!

As for ethnic background I generally identify myself as Russian, although I am not 100%. It takes too long to list every single tiny percentage of my ethnicity- and I've been asked on multiple occasions if I am from Russia because I have an Eastern European look to me.
