How to speed up mac?

What I have done is this:

1) put all the files you want to keep onto a flash drive
2) bring your mac into the apple store and they will reset it to factory setting for you for free (make sure you make an appointment though)

your mac will work just like new!

thanks for the advice my mac has been SO slow lately its driving me mad and even after resetting it myself it still is beyond slow
