The thought that this is what way too many kids are growing up with, who they're looking up to, is quite unsettling...

I remember when I was growing up the 90's and the teachers would complain about TV and popstars, and us using slang words and mumbling too much. I totally get it's the same for every generation, but this is the first generation we're seeing that have grown up with the Internet and having seemingly constant access to the people they are fans of. Back in the day we'd have to buy the magazine, watch the tv show, listen to the radio to get those few lines of 'new content' on your fave band or celebrity.

It wasn't as easy as logging onto their social media each day and seeing what they're up to today! Also bonding with other fans wasn't as easy.

I do think that lack of distance from fandoms these days is problematic. There's no breathing room. These youtubers and online personalities have a way of engaging people to make them feel like they actually KNOW them, and are part of something and while that can be nice - it can also be kinda dangerous.

Just look at how many fandoms are willing to defend the honor of their overlords, as if they need it - or care! They act like they are fighting the good fight from the 'haters' who are just mean negative nancies who will stop at nothing to bring them down. When all they haters are doing is pointing out some hypocrisies and problems and asking for people to think a bit. But the toxicity is rabid.

I really loathe that the internet can be so hyperbolic and the people easily lead. But I also want to mention it's not just kids, there's heaps of followers in the 20's and 30's and above doing the same, so clearly the psychology of social media and celebrity is something we should all be looking closer into, and how it sucks us down a difficult rabbit hole.

I'm sure Jeffree is making him do this. Jeffree sees the backlash clearly. he kept saying in his latest video that more episodes were coming even though Shane made it seem like that was it. He also made it clear that he was fine if the drama was shown. Today on Snapchat he snapped from the makeup lab which people said that they wanted to see that process in the series. This is totally a business move by Jeffree.
