Know this is a late response but I also agree that it was a good decision to do what he did! It was definitely the most mature decision at least. I see a lot of people talking about money and sabotage saying he would be where Caspar etc are now. Tbh if I was in his position I'd rather be known for making decent films rather than making silly videos. People in the film industry simply wouldn't respect him as much if he continued to make the videos he used to make. I think it just shows that he's dedicated to his film career and has found out where he wants to be in life. Can't argue with that!onmywayhome wrote:Ok, I get it now, thanks for explaining and showing me this cringy video featuring Dangrumpysod wrote:He was never a 'vlogger' as such but he did do collabs and his channel was mainly interviews with other vloggers where he made fun of them or attempted to make them feel awkward. I didn't know that he used to be a vlogger, I discovered him like a year ago and I watched his shorts 'cause I liked his Wes Anderson-ish+vintage aesthetics
I like where he's going with his career, in my opinion his movies are getting better and better
They were quite entertaining in a strange way and a bit different. I can understand why he deleted them as he appears to want to use his channel a portfolio / CV for his career now. But I think it pissed off a lot of subscribers because he basically turned his channel from being PG light entertainment into creative/artistic pseudo intellectualism.
Bertie had all the ingredients to be a big hit like Joe, Caspar, Marcus, etc, but he decided to go a different route. Good luck to him........ only time will tell if it is a mistake because while he is busy playing film maker they are making enough cash to do what they want in the future when their popularity dies....... but who knows if Bertie will hit big and become a well known film producer or something.
I used to search for some his oldest videos but somehow managed to find the only one where he looks like a child and says something like "I'm jesus"
after watching those videos I'm even more convinced that it was good for him to cut off from the past since I'm not really fond of Joe's/Caspar's/Marcus'/Tyler's etc content and I really hope Bertie will one day become a fulfilled director (rather than being a depressed person with lots of money)

Re: Bertie Gilbert
i used to watch bertie waaaaay back when he was friends with dom and harrison. a couple of months ago i tweeted 'remember when bertie gilbert made poo jokes' and he replied and then dm'ed me explaining that he was a film maker now. found it hilarious and very pretentious, but i do like his style in film making (although i think his acting is a bit shit).

Saw him in Hazel's new vlog; he is growing at such a high speed. He'll be taller than Bry soon enough.

Re: Bertie Gilbert
The generation of Bertie you're talking about is years after the Bertie that got him 'known', the interviews with Troye, Tyler, ect came later.grumpysod wrote:He was never a 'vlogger' as such but he did do collabs and his channel was mainly interviews with other vloggers where he made fun of them or attempted to make them feel awkward. Bertie WAS a vlogger in the same way you would call Joe a vlogger, he didn't do it daily but he would do monthly/weekly spurts (especially when he would go on holiday) and unfortunately most of his old vlogs are private so I can't exactly link them.
He was also a fan of the Charlie type video just standing in front of a camera with a cool background and just talking.

Re: Bertie Gilbert
I agree with most of your post but your timeline of Bertie is simply too far ahead, the interviews you're referencing came years after and while it got him a few extra subs I think it was simply another generation of Berite and to be fair he did have many.grumpysod wrote:He was never a 'vlogger' as such but he did do collabs and his channel was mainly interviews with other vloggers where he made fun of them or attempted to make them feel awkward. He was constantly changing his style and unfortunately most of this is privated now but he went through a lot of changes to his channel trying to find what suits him, I think he's happy now.
I guess it's why I was confused as to why you didn't call him a vlogger because for awhile there he was one, in the same way Joe is today... it wasn't everyday but he went through periods of weekly/monthly vlogging, ect.
I did enjoy Blue Sushi, it was enjoyable but I agree with whoever said Bertie isn't a great actor because I had far too many cringe moments in the movie with how he delivered lines. Like the part where he joined in on the conversation with the two girls at the party, it seemed like a joke

Re: Bertie Gilbert
Bertie just posted a little life update video that answered some unanswered questions about his transition into a filmmaker. A very brutally honest explanation and I can't help but feel most of these fears came from people he looked up to and how they snubbed that gleam side of YouTube... I feel he was heavy influenced by them and this video is essentially him saying how he regrets feeling that way and how he should have appreciated his early work more.
Even when his friend posted a Instagram picture of him making this video one of those pretentious wannabe filmmakers who Bertie no doubt looked up to called it 'ugly' it just saddens me that this level of ugly pretentiousness on YouTube still exist and how some feel that only films should be uploaded and appreciated on this platform, if you want to take yourself seriously use Vimeo or something.

Actually, I'm pretty sure "ugly" is an inside joke between Bertie's friends! They put that under each other's photos all the timeCoffee4Me wrote:Bertie just posted a little life update video that answered some unanswered questions about his transition into a filmmaker. I'm glad Bertie made this video. I hope that means he's finally found himself.

Re: Bertie Gilbert
He comes across as a bit very pretentious and on a side note I wish he would get a fucking haircut. Ironically despite talking about thinking more 'complexly' about things and being more aware he sounds completely self absorbed.
I notice he implies he feels he was wrong to delete his old content (vlogs, challenges, etc) in an attempt to run away from his past, but he hasn't reactivated them for his old fans has he?
Sounds like he is reciting self-help mantra, but I suspect he will end up repeating his mistakes as many of us do.

Re: Bertie Gilbert
I'm sorry, I think Bertie is extremely talented and an amazing filmmaker (if he were to make an actual film, I'd watch it), but Jesus, he isn't half pretentious.
I don't know how he used to be - I've only started watching him post-deleting all his previous content - but I can't bring myself to watch any videos of just him.
He seems like a nice guy, I just wish he realized he didn't need to fit this 'deep' and 'hipster appearance' stereotype for his work to be taken seriously.

Re: Bertie Gilbert
I find some of his films great while others are mediocre. I wasn't really a fan of 'Blue Sushi' especially the name (spoiler alert it's just the name of the band). Also I've been watching him since 'Tumbleweed productions' if anyone was watching him back then. And if I were him I would have taken some of those videos down too hahaha.

I thought his "A Chat With..." videos were hilarious; I wish he wouldn't have deleted/privated them.
