The way these social media idiots lap up the Rupi Kaur poetry is infuriating on a few different levels. 1) it's not very good poetry. 2) they think they're really tapped into their inner selves by reading it. There's a feed on Jezebel or some such on the Kaur poetry and it makes me laugh so hard....if you type up your favourite Simpsons quotes and format them to rezemble the Kaur style it's worlds better than Kaur's. Case in point:

She has two books (the first was originally self-published and then was picked up by a proper publisher).

They're short poems, usually they are printed with line drawings she's done.

Some of her poetry is about body positivity, relationships (toxic and not), unrequited love, diaspora....there is some criticism about whether Rupi Kaur invokes other people's experiences of victimization and racialization to create a kind of generalized trauma about the South Asian experience.

I never heard about Rupi Kaur before reading here and just checked her Instagram. Wow. Read something about "bleeding tangerines" and had to close it. "Deep", pretentious school girl thoughts. But I can totally understand why these Youtubers lap it up the way they do – she looks cute and presents her stuff in a pretty way. And no wonder it appeals to Estée! She probably thinks it is good poetry and posting it makes her seem intellectual.

Double post but I honestly think that one of Estee's downfalls was that she became the "funny normal" youtuber. I feel like people like Amelia played that up so much that Estee was kinda weird and funny, that she just became a caricature of herself.

I love that video, I think I mentioned it before but they do this funny dance off in Ikea that's really cute.. back when they acted more like normal people.

Double post but I honestly think that one of Estee's downfalls was that she became the "funny normal" youtuber. I feel like people like Amelia played that up so much that Estee was kinda weird and funny, that she just became a caricature of herself.

Oh yeah, for sure. Around 2015 when she was in her downward spiral, you could tell she was trying to break out of the 'expectations' to be funny and make those same old jokes and her blaccent routines. And all the comments were asking her to be her 'old self' again and to 'be funny'. It's awkward.

I think in your 20s you often start questioning who you really are and look at old patterns of behaviour. The problem is Estee has no real self-identity or strong sense of who she is, it's all connected with things like YouTube, performing for an audience, and Aslan's vision of her.
She's overcorrected in trying to be different to who she was before. She just puts on this costume of cool/confident Estee and it's disingenuous.

I know people really change but damn she was SO different. Her voice especially has changed drastically. Idk if she WAS putting on a different voice then, or if she is now lol.

For me, the simple reason is that she’s gotten too comfortable knowing that she has unlimited funds and that made her smug and insufferable AF.
