She's in Rave About a Guru, but not here, and I think it's time to start a thread.
On YouTube since 2008, almost 40,000 subscribers. On Tumbler, Instagram, twitter, etc. Calls her subbies Fruitbats. Swears a lot, comfortable in front of the camera, good makeup skills. But then there's the elephant in the room.
Here she is in a random screen grab from one of her videos, looking like Elizabeth Taylor after she swallowed Mama Cass.
A selfie.
Another random screen grab, this time from a makeup video. She's contouring her face.
Occasionally she posts a pic of her nails.
Not fat-shaming here. Really! She *is* very pretty, with beautiful skin and eyes. And her makeup skills are there. But honestly, aside from the world of instagram selfies, who the hell is going to notice her makeup? At least TheGlamorousLife talks about her weight. Victoria seems to think that if she makes one video where she makes fun of people's (admittedly douchey) comments, the matter has received sufficient attention. But who is her target audience? Morbidly obese makeup addicts? Her contouring video was just so ... I mean, she said she doesn't contour her jaw, and it took all of my self-control not to yell "YOU DON'T HAVE A JAW" at my laptop.
Am I a horrible hater or what?

I like her. She is one of the few youtubers that is comfortable with themselves.
Plus she's hilarious.
She CAN have some outrageous unrealistic looks, but that's just her.

Re: Victoria Donelda
I know everyone is entitled to their opinions, but you basically called HER the elephant in the room and then tried to say you weren't fat shaming? Really?!
She has amazing makeup skills, she is HONEST... down to earth, comfortable in her own skin and works her ass off between going to school and going to work. If you don't like her... cool but don't just make fat jokes.
and BTW anatomy 101 everyone has a jaw and a jawline... just b cuz it isn't sharp and chiseled doesn't mean it doesn't exsist!

I guess I'm a horrible hater. I don't know, it just seems to me that if you're at all out of the ordinary (20-something with mermaid hair, an Ikea Alex, and burning a scented candle) than it would be less ingenuous to own it. Older, transgender, and petite gurus do.
Re: Victoria Donelda
Own what, though? Do you want her entire channel to be about being fat? I think older, transgender, and petite(?????) people don't want to be defined by one aspect of themselves either.

Her channel is about her skills and opinions, not her weight. I'm sure she knows she's overweight, she doesn't have to explain herself in every video.
It's annoying to me when gurus always go on and on about their skin problems and weight problems. Most of the time, they aren't even that major. I just saw a video where someone was crying because they thought they had shitty skin that wasn't even broken out but only a bit oily and now they're paying for very expensive face treatments to fix it.

I love Victoria because she's so different from other beauty gurus/vloggers! She says exactly what she thinks and her sassyness makes me super happy I love watching her videos a lot more than watching fake videos that don't feel that genuine - it's hard to relate and connect to someone who seems perfect I guess. Idk, she's pretty cool.

I think she's gorgeous and her skills are on point. She's also very informative when talking about products. Also, she's very funny.
Re: Victoria Donelda
Registered/delurking solely to confirm that yes, you are a "horrible hater." Victoria is talented, funny, a super hard worker and real. If you can't appreciate that because all you see is her fat, then the problem is you.

Re: Victoria Donelda
I just started watching her a couple months a go. I loved her personality and some of her makeup tutorials are pretty good. She seems to be honest with her opinion on products.
I don't get the sense at all that she's that confident, whenever she is asked weight questions she hesistates. It obviously bothers her and I think that makes her even more likable. She's human and it's difficult to struggle with your weight especially with people pointing it out all the time. She's refreshing in a sea of cookie cutter barbie youtubers. There are a lot of morbidly obese people in the world, that doesn't mean they can't enjoy makeup or contouring just because they don't have chiseled features. I think she represents a very underepresented look on youtube. I should probably take this to the rave section....

Re: Victoria Donelda
I just found her today and, as someone who also has a weight problem, it's nice to see an overweight youtuber who DOESN'T go on and on about wanting to lose weight. Do skinny youtubers define themselves by their size? Nope and neither should fat ones. She admits she's fat and moves the fuck on. Like anyone else watching her should, and if you can't then stop watching. Like she's said, there are thousands of other beauty channels to watch.
I will say though, that it gets a bit annoying hearing her say constantly how different, and real, and honest she is. She insinuated that the vloggers that don't swear aren't real. That bugged me a bit. It's almost like she thinks she's the only "real" person on youtube and wants to shove it in our faces as much as she can. I do like her but that part of her is quite annoying. There is a difference between confident and cocky and she definitely straddles that line sometimes (and I also have to wonder how real it always is)

I do kind of agree with this the more I think about it ^^
I just think she feels the need to constantly say it because a lot of youtubers say they ARE real which is a big ass lie.

Re: Victoria Donelda
Victoria is the first youtuber that I started watching, and I absolutely love her. She is so real! Yeah she's overweight, but she doesn't pity herself, she's confidents and extremely talented at makeup. She doesn't make stupid videos like a lot of beauty gurus, her content is original and creative.
Sarcastic bitch with an affinity for anything pink and or covered in glitter.
Re: Victoria Donelda
That's true, but I hope as time goes on she does tone it down a bit. I think it's a confidence issue, I wonder if she's quite as confident as she likes to portray. Either way, I do really like her and look forward to her videos.Pinkie1205 wrote:I do kind of agree with this the more I think about it ^^

I pick up the same vibe I get from Rachel Whitehurst ... some of the "realness" is coming across as the-lady-doth-protest-too-much.

Re: Victoria Donelda
the comments above about her being overweight lmao it is not like the girl is hiding it. Most ppl do not go around saying they are fat everyday, to me there is no elephant in the room about her being bigger it is obvious. I think she is just being normal by not saying hey everyone iam bigger, that would be so dumb. Her size is irrelevant. As far as her "realness" idk i do sense some stuff about her that i would never say b/c i feel it would be mean, but from my experience most realistic girls on youtube, her being one of them - simply are.

Re: Victoria Donelda
I guess I just went WUT at the "how to contour a round face" video. Christina Ricci has a round face. Leonardo diCaprio has a round face. Veronica is carrying a lot of extra weight in the lower half of her face. It affects the way she applies makeup. To not mention the fat and just call her face "round" seems disingenuous behavior on the part of somebody who purports to be teaching other people how to use makeup.

Re: Victoria Donelda
I really enjoy her personality, but does any one else think she is not that good at makeup at all? She calls her self a professional makeup artist but there is no way in hell I'd let her do makeup for an event like prom.
As for the contouring, I found round a little odd but who really wants to call their face fat or refer to themselves at fat all the time? Maybe she should of used a fuller face.

Re: Victoria Donelda
I actually enjoy watching Victoria. BUT...I completely agree. I find it hardly suspicious when someone claims to be a professional makeup artist then uses the excuse that they are not going to disclose "where" they work due to privacy. Well, she films herself in the family bake shop and announces where she lives repeatedly, which college she attends. She is so careless with everything else she shows, so why is her makeup job so important to hide? I'll tell you why. She doesn't have what she claims to have. Not one photo of her work, but she posts tons of photos of her school artwork? You can say, hey I'm doing makeup at a wedding today, or I'm going to do makeup for a photo today. We don't need to know the details. EVERY freaking pro makeup artist regularly posts behind the scenes videos, videos of them working on models, on shoots, or shows photos of the work they just did. She's not being honest. Second, I'm a pro makeup artist, and while I don't think that makes me more qualified to say, her blending and overall makeup application technique is really quite poor. Thirdly, she gives a lot of advice about products and skincare that is totally and completely wrong, so much so that I've had to hold myself from giving correct information. She has no idea what she's talking about. The only thing she can speak about is the high-end makeup she favors and whether or not she likes it. She goes on about how "drugstore" makeup is "bad for you" and she won't put it on her face, which is a lie because the same "harmful" irritants and ingredients are in most high-end makeup. That makes her a high-end snob, and that always turns me off. She finally started to use some drugstore brands and now indie brands and has changed her tune on stuff. I think she's way more about being a product junkie.
I do not believe that opening subscription boxes makes anyone a makeup artist or specialist. The majority of her videos since she started are opening her this box and that box, and she subscribes to so many friggin' services, I don't know how the hell she affords it since she complains of money constantly. She also does not say a peep about applying makeup on different face shapes and tones, and she uses tons and tons of glitter, which is great if she loves it, but many people cannot wear all that glitter and so the variety of techniques and makeup looks is limited.
Personally, I have fun watching her because she's funny as hell, but I do not believe in any way that she is a professional makeup artist. I think she's stretching that truth and then makes up little stories to avoid the issue. She says she's insulted being called a "beauty guru." She says, "I'm a makeup artist who makes videos. I'm an ARTIST. Then she doesn't mention one damned thing about being a makeup artist? FLAT OUT LIE.
I love seeing a girl who is not the "norm," and I think her weight is a source of insecurity and it does affect her, but she compensates for it with a sense of humor about herself, and viewers LOVE that. It's refreshing. I just think she's dishonest about her qualifications, and that really bugs the crap out of me. She's officially the first "pro" makeup artist who doesn't talk about the career or what she's working on, who doesn't give even a bio or talk about where she learned, if she's gone to cosmetology school or not, who doesn't talk about the industry, her experiences...NOTHING. I smell a rat.

Re: Victoria Donelda
Okay so I am 100% team Victoria. But she hasn't posted in two weeks because she's in college and really busy-which I totally get. BUT she had this in her description box of the video she posted today, "please don't ask me where i've been and why i haven't been posting..." and to me that just sounds super rude. She's basically saying, "I put my life out here on the internet but don't you dare ask me why my videos have been extremely inconsistent" I mean if someone asks it doesn't mean they're being rude, they could just be concerned. Idk that comment rubbed me the wrong way.
