Hey guys, I'm just curious as to what kinds of allergies you may have, what symptoms you get and how you deal with it.
I have an allergy to certain types of weeds, and especially to stinging nettle. While I was trying to cure my acne a few years ago I drank a freaking tea of it and got a huge rash all up and down my thighs. I put some diaper rash cream on and eventually it went away.
However lately I've been getting insect bites from ants invading my house and have been getting awful reactions. The bites become incredibly swollen and itchy, my limbs painful and arthritic and my heart also races for hours on end. I even had trouble going to sleep because my heart was pounding so hard that it was all I could hear. The bites have since healed and I'm on antihistamines that make me super sleepy, but anything's better than feeling like you're having a constant heart attack. Have any of you guys had similar experiences?
What are your allergies?

Re: What are your allergies?
I am allergic to wasps and have similar symptoms like you have from the ants when I am stung. I too just treat with a hefty dose of antihistamines. My doctor though cautioned me that there's no telling if I was stung tomorrow it wouldn't be deadly though so I keep an epi-pen now just in case. I have never had to use it though. Though, if I was in your position I might get them checked out just to be sure. It's a lot more rare for someone to get stung by a wasp then it is to get bitten by an ant I am sure. :/
I also have an immune disorder and have tested positive allergy wise a butt-load of foods. Onion, and citrus were the major ones and ones I avoid anyway because I have Interstitial Cystitis. The other ones (some dairy, certain grains) I still eat and don't notice an issue. I hear both good and bad about skin-testing for consumption allergens, so I take my results with a grain of salt. Though it was spot-on for my most noticeable ones.
And then the others I have are all med related and caused rashes and throat/tongue/lip swelling. I only keep track of these in case I were to be admitted to a hospital unconscious:
- Penicillin
- Cipro
- Latex (in/on foods it's fine for me)
- Synthroid

Re: What are your allergies?
Oh my Lord. I have so many. I think I might be allergic to myself.
Latex
Tomatoes
Bell peppers
Doxycycline
Annnnnd everything on the environmental skin test.
I usually go into anaphylaxis and break out in hives. Epipens are not fun. I hope you never have to use it.

The worst would have to be I am now allergic to mushrooms.......I love them used to eat them all the time but then the rash started and it spread everywhere and I mean everywhere, embarrassing much? Huh huh......took me months to get rid of it, I was a walking scratching post

Re: What are your allergies?
Not really technically an allergy, but I have coeliac disease. I just usually say "I'm allergic to gluten" and then people judge me believing I'm just on it for the trend when really I have a medical condition. It was much easier when I was a kid and gluten free wasn't a fad lol.

Re: What are your allergies?
mold, pesticides, some pollen, and i'm starting to think I'm allergic to a certain kind of cheese.
I take a daily allergy med. and I stay with a runny nose, rashes, itchy eyes, itchy skin, itchy knots on my skin that come and go, drainage down the back of the throat, in some cases severe sore throat, and I get a film over my eyes when I sleep. Then all these wonderful things tend to lead to sinus infections especially when my nose runs non stop for months other then meds I just deal with it. I also take Robitussin when things get too bad to help with cough that I sometimes have as well.

I'm allergic to codeine. I've had two reactions to it, both times all my limbs went numb, I had horrendous stomach cramps, vomited, sweated, my face was tingly..legit thought I was going to die both times
I also think I'm allergic to my guinea pig because I have to take allergy tablets daily now or I have a full blown cold all day with itchy eyes and coughing. Tablets ease it but I'm still not sure what it is thats causing it

Myself as well. I tend to say "I'm allergic to gluten" often as well but sometimes depending on who asks I'll actually explain about the auto-immune factors in more depth.one2three wrote:Not really technically an allergy, but I have coeliac disease. Re: What are your allergies?
I'm allergic to tree nuts (pecans, almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts, coconuts, etc.) I get major hives around my mouth and sometimes I even stop breathing. Every now and then I develop an allergy to lactose again. I was lactose intolerant when I was a baby and then it went away and sometimes it comes back, it's kinda weird. :p

Sorry, this made me laugh. That sucks though, I love strawberries haha.BooRadley17 wrote:I'm allergic to strawberries. They make my ass cheeks turn bright red.

I have no allergies that I am aware of *knock on wood*
Re: What are your allergies?
I'm allergic to dust, mites, cockroaches, and things like that. It was last year that I got properly diagnosed though... found out through an allergy test that I'm mildly allergic to dairy, broiler chicken, and soy. But I still eat them regularly because I don't see any side effects... yet. (but please don't haha, tofu is the love of my life)
I get "allergy attacks" quite frequently... usually in the morning... it's so annoying

The only known allergy I have is morphine. Not fun waking up after surgery in anaphylactic shock!

Re: What are your allergies?
Because of my many pollen allergies (numerous trees and hay species), I have multiple food allergies. I'm allergic to many fresh fruits (I can usually eat them in juices, pies, sauces etc): apples, pears, plums, peaches, nectarines, kiwis... The reaction is stronger during allergy season (spring and summer), but for example during winter I can eat those fruits in small doses, even if they are fresh. I'm also allergic to hazelnuts in any form. Symptoms with pollen are watery and reddish eyes, sneezing and stuffy nose. With foods my throat gets a bit swollen. But luckily none of my allergies are lethal or severe, so it's not the end of the world if I accidentally eat some apple. I treat my allergies usually with Xyzal, which is an antihistamine. Oh and I'm also allergic to penicillin, it makes me vomit badly.
