Rebuilding in public

Same tea.
Much better pot.

Guru Gossip is being rebuilt from the ground up — a brand new home for the boards that made you log in every day. Faster than the old phpBB, thumb-friendly on a phone, and comfortable on a 27-inch monitor.

Why rebuild

What we're changing

The old forum ran on a shared phpBB host and it showed. Here is what actually changes, in plain English.

Instant pages

Pages load in about the time it takes to read this sentence. No waiting on a shared host.

Phone first, then desktop

Threaded, thumb-reachable layouts on small screens and a wide three-column view on big ones. Neither is an afterthought.

Search that works

Full-text search across every post, with filters for board, author and date. Your 2014 receipts are findable again.

You choose the pings

Replies, mentions and a weekly digest — or nothing at all. Nobody gets spammed into muting the whole site.

Polls and spoilers

Vote inside a thread, and wrap reveals in spoiler tags so the drama lands on your terms.

Handles, not real names

Post under a handle. We never ask for a legal name, and we publish what moderators do.

The roster

Boards, old and new

Every board you know is coming across, plus a few we think you have been asking for. Vote in the survey if you think something is missing.
